Star Trek Discovery Renewed For Season 3

I figured Alex Kurtzman would only be an interim head writer. Michelle Paradise wrote three episodes of DSC that are part of the second half of the season and was a co-producer for a series called The Originals.

Aaaand thats enough to showrun a popular TV series these days? At least Kurtzman had some history with Star Trek before being given the reigns. And now he has been "demoted" to co-showrunner. Now maybe it's because he has enough on his plate and he's dealing with all the new and upcoming Trek shows, but still I can name at-least 20 more well known and more deserving co-showrunners..

I made no opinion whatsoever. Alex Kurtzman seems to me to be someone who'd prefer to just be a Producer. And a Producer vastly outranks a Writer, even a Head Writer. Alex Kurtzman is like Rick Berman. Whoever the head writer is, is like Michael Piller. And even if Michael Piller had a producer title, Rick Berman was still above him. That's the relationship. Technically, after Gretchen Berg and Aaron Herberts were fired, Alex Kurtzman was pulling double-duty by doing something he normally would've delegated.

She's been promoted from within, so I'm guessing they are very happy with her work. Not like they didn't try before they bought.

Good for Discovery. We're now in the set of episodes with the new showrunner and team fully on board and if last week was any indication, it's in good hands. However, I had a bit of a chuckle at this paragraph:

Discovery, starring Sonequa Martin-Green and Ethan Peck (as Spock), is produced by CBS TV Studios, where Kurtzman's Secret Hideout banner is based. Beyond the other Star Trek offerings, CBS All Access' scripted roster includes The Good Fight, Strange Angel, Tell Me a Story and the upcoming Twilight Zone and Interrogation. Comedy No Activity is awaiting word on a potential third season.

We haven't even seen Ethan Peck yet. Not sure how much of a starring role he has. With that said looking forward to seeing him tomorrow night.

I think I'd rather have continuity in the writer's room versus plucking a name out of a hat. But, I may change my thinking by the end of the season.

Maybe they know something we don't ;)
Star Trek Discovery Season 3: Pike, Spock and Lt. Kirk show
Oh and they''' pick up Bones along the way too. There is a good reason CMO on Discovery is just an extra :D

The Originals was a spin-off of the The Vampire Diaries. It ran for five seasons on the CW and eventually spawned a spin-off of its own, Legacies. Sounds like a legitimate credit to me.

And I still feel bad for the actual crew of the Discovery. Give Suru his own ship, dangit and have Detmer as first officer or something. ;)

This pretty much sums up what happened without any guessing or rumors....

"Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek," Kurtzman said. "Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together."

Kurtzman picked her, so if he was 'demoted', he did it to himself.
