Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Disco should keep them going a while. Though having a Fed tugboat from some obscure ep does suggest a bottom scraping. Still lots of STO ships to go though. I like the Excalibur refit of the Connie, plus the Exeter-class version of same.

IMO quite a few important nuggets in there!

What's interesting is - there is not a single missing Federation ship in there! People really DO buy them more than Alien ships. Some of these alien ships are pretty major things, but instead we get a fourth re-dress of the Miranda-class...

Buy more alien starships, people! ;)

But Disco is a separate collection, and I suspect the mass appeal of STO is pretty limited. They certainly haven't incorporated any STO ships into the main sequence, and I suspect they won't.

wait so memory-alpha has an image of discovery issue 12 and it's the enterprise already:

kind of expected this to come a little later since the XL enterprise is so fresh. wonder if they'll fix some of the issues with the XL, like the unpainted nacelle ends or the inaccurate, orange bussards (they should be more ruby colored like the NX-01)...

I’d say the Enterprise-F are just a special, as providing more STO ships would bring Hero Collector into direct competition with GamePrint. Have you had any of your ships from STO printed yet?

...

If they were to go for a another game one-off model, I’d hope it”d be the USS Aegis NX-1787 from the VR game.

In any case, the potential end of the main collection threatens my hopes for the remaining “Year of Hell” ships.

I haven't, how good are the prints?

I got into 3D printing at home a few months back but Trek ships are fiddly as hell due to the overhanging saucers - I printed the upgraded Columbia-Class refit of the NX-01 (which adds a secondary hull) and it's fine from the top, but needed so many support struts for the saucer the underside looks like it has measles.

Managed a decent Vulcan ringship though.

I suggested the TAS Bonaventure, Regula I and the SS Conestoga. Looking at the list @Doom Shepherd linked to, I wish I would have suggested those ships as well: the Groumall, T’Plana-Hath, the Wisp ship (awesome design!) and the Newton. The original Aurora would be really nice as well.

What did others wish for?

Completely unrelated: Today I picked up the BoP in attack configuration from the shop. And bloody hell is that a great model! I skeppde the flat-winged version back when the collection started, so this is my first BoP model. And it's truly a work of art!
Manages to capture all the details, and it feels great having in the hands, and gives you a new appreciation for the original model from the movies. This truly is one of Trek's best designed alien starships! (That's why they used to to the point of almost overusing it;))
But in my only-the-important-ships-and-the-few-I-always-craved collection, it feels soo good having such a perfect model of it, in the right size, for this prize!

How big are the Discovery models compared to their regular line? I have multiple Enterprise models they've done, might as well ad this one if the sizing isn't too different.

The largest regular-line (not special or XL) ships are around 150mm, comparable to the smallest DSC ships in the line. I think the largest not-xl DSC ship so far is about 250mm.

the sizes vary in the discovery collection a little bit. i'm guessing the enterprise will be shorter than the USS discovery model (8.5 inches), but longer than the USS shenzhou model (7.5 inches), just based on its proportions.

like i said before, there are areas i'd like to see improved on a smaller model, but even if it the discovery collection enterprise is just a shrunk down version of the XL line, i think it'll look better. there's just something a little unrefined about the XL model that might be helped if it's smaller.

The Conestoga would be a good one - early colony ship from the Terra Nova ENT ep. She gets a mention in the mag accompanying the Daedalus-Class (which is out of whack with the ENT novels in that it makes out the Daedalus to be newer than the NX-01... not sure if we ever got service dates on-screen? The ENT novels explain the preponderance of early Fed ships being Daedalus as having them simply be more cost-effective than the NX-Class and the Intrepids).

Interestingly, they noted her voyage to Terra Nova as taking 9 years to cover ~20 light-years at "just over Warp 1". I ran the numbers using the old Warp-cubed equation and Warp 1.3 would indeed be about 2.17 times the speed of light or around the speed needed to just slightly more than halve the travel time on a 20 light-year trip.

I went for most of those.
Consestoga, Wisp, Groumall, T'plana-hath, the Kazon carrier, the Sarajevo, the Son'a Battleship and Command ship, plus I've always liked the B'omar and Qomar ships. And the three other nuTrek ships. If they really could get the agreement to do the Franz Joseph ships, I'd buy them, too.

And I've always kinda wanted Friendship One (undamaged version)

I only have Discovery and Buran. The latter is pretty much the same size as Vengeance (which is approximately 11.5 cm saucer diameter / 22.5 length). I'd bet the #12 Discoprise would be of similar size.
