Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

That Merchantman looks like it’s one of the best of the entire line - in that scale, in the very least. The attention to detail and the gorgeous paint job really is one of Ben’s team’s crowning achievements.

Even more so when you realize that they never made a CG model of this ship, and the phyiscal model was auctioned off years ago, so their references would've been limited.

And I'll definitely be getting this one. It's basically the only major ship from the first six movies that never had a micro machine made (yet, for some reason, that bulgy spacedock shuttle did!).

IIRC, there was a miniature version of the Merchantman made by FASA back in the 80’s. It was quite good. Maybe they found one and used it as a reference.

Just an update for those that received the grey E-F instead of the Bonnie. Spoke to Eaglemoss and they are aware of the mix-up. They have been getting a lot of calls in the last few days. An email will go out to everyone next week stating they are aware of the mistake and that the Bonnie will be mailed to those who ordered one. Not sure what happens to those with the E-F as far as if we will be required to send it back. Regardless, I opened mine and if asked to return it will just re-order the Bonnie since I was going to get the E-F anyway. If they don't ask for it back that will save me some money :techman:

These things aren't expensive enough to bother sending back. Between shipping back, processing and repacking you're out more money than the model by itself worth (probably $10 in material and labor). Plus, you're burdening a customer who may already be upset with you. I don't know about you, but I'm not interested in hoofing it over to the post office in the middle of a cold snap.

Best move, by far, is just ship out the correct item and eat the mistake. Then you can act magnanimous by passing the cold business decision as a favor to the affected.

I just want my magazine that goes with the model.

Thanks for the update. I got the Enterprise F as well & was just getting ready to call them. I’ll wait for the email next week.

Like you I was going to order it anyway so we might end up saving a little. In my experience, US Eaglemoss doesn’t usually ask for things back.

Huh... I haven’t gotten either of them yet.

Wow, the Enterprise-F is a bad looking ship. I feel like 1) it's bad on its own merits, but 2) it doesn't do what all the other Enterprise designs do, and create a whole new aesthetic for starship design. The refit couldn't be a sister ship to the original, the D couldn't be one for the C. But the F looks like a sister ship to the E, instead of something from a generation later. It's weirdly unambitious.

To me, the F looks like someone left the E out in the sun too long it started to melt.

It suffers from Oberthitis, with two connecting dorsals between the primary and secondary hulls on either side, but nothing in the middle. Thankfully, it’s big enough to make turbolift travel inside them a bit more believable.

And for the record, the standard gray paint job is what the original designers (Adam Ihle and Adam Williams) intended. The highly-contrasted skunkadelic livery is the usual unnecessary over-detailing endemic to STO design conversions.

Aside from suffering my Uglyitus, it also suffers from what a designer in the Star Trek, the Next Generation Sketchbook: The Movies said, when showing early designs for some Federation ship, from needing somebody to just tell you that it looks like a chicken.

And this looks like the last chicken in the shop that's been cleaned up and polished some in order to move it.

Oh my land! There's an interphasic TOS Defiant that glows in the dark?! Here! Take my money!!!

Yep, that's one of my favorites. A few seconds under a small light source, like a lamp, is enough for a good glow. It's basically identical to TOS Enterprise model, which the slight difference that the Defiant saucer doesn't feel as smooth and the Bussards are yellow instead of red. (I attribute both to the glow-in-the-dark paint it's coated with).

It's a fun model to hold up against the Enterprise or a Tholian ship, or perhaps the mirror NX-01, if you want to go deeper than that. :)

Hmm...if I put it in front of a mirror, would that make it the Mirror Universe Defiant?

Can't wait to play with this one!

Well, if they just go off me, it's not going to happen. Most of those ships I'm completely uninterested in!

Starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel. I wonder how much having Federation and major race ships "subsidizes" the release of more obscure ones? Because if that's the case, an Excelsior prototype i dont ever recall seeing before and a couple of Kazon / Suliban ships may not be sufficient.
