That was O'Brien. Bashir's suggestion was a virus. Though Dax earlier in the episode attributed Darvin's appearance to surgery.Bashir suggests it in "Trials and Tribble-ations"

In that case, see my earlier comment about forward change being far less jarring and making a lot more sense than backward. We're not talking about the later retcons, we're talking about it in just the context of TOS and TMP.
They are writing their own story and ignoring anything that doesn't fit into it, hence my belief it's a de facto reboot which they call "prime universe" because market research probably told them it would get a few more subs. Nothing wrong with the former, but trying to force it into the latter does a massive disservice especially to TOS.So what? Better they write their own story than hobble themselves worrying about what past series did, especially the minutia of fictional aliens.
Sorry, O'Brien. Genetic engineering was suggested as a possible reason for the Klingon change (and later solidified in ENT)That was O'Brien. Bashir's suggestion was a virus. Though Dax earlier in the episode attributed Darvin's appearance to surgery.
Which every star trek series and movie has done. They are writing their own story and ignoring anything that doesn't fit into it
Nah it was a virus, like Bashir said.Sorry, O'Brien. Genetic engineering was suggested as a possible reason for the Klingon change (and later solidified in ENT)
Not to split hairs but I think the argument is more that DSC fits with TOS as well as TMP fits with TOS.
No, that's only a concern of over invested fanaticism. There is no forcing of anything into a prime universe. Any prime universe is whatever the producers decide it is, if that is of any concern at all to them. It won't be to any audience at large. TOS? That's just a TV show. Any feelings that it is not being served properly should be referred to the Shatner SNL skit. They are writing their own story and ignoring anything that doesn't fit into it, hence my belief it's a de facto reboot which they call "prime universe" because market research probably told them it would get a few more subs. It seems to me the lineage Discovery has chosen to follow is: ENT, DSC, TOS Films, TNG, Post-TNG. If you bypass TOS itself, I can see the look of DSC largely leading up to the films.
That isn't how Canon works.
Black SailsThat isn't how Canon works.
It was technically both. It was a mutated virus created from Klingon genetic engineering.Nah it was a virus, like Bashir said.
Writers and producers are beholden to the Canon as has been previously established and do not have the authority to "cherry-pick" what they want to adhere to in telling their story.
If the Roddenberry estate were to declare that TOS was no longer Canon, DSC could ignore its events; otherwise, they are beholden to it in its entirety.

Not to this extent.Which every star trek series and movie has done.
Augment virus, the result of genetic tampering.Nah it was a virus, like Bashir said.
Of course it's just a TV show. This isn't about TOS being sacred or the best show ever or anything like that, I'd feel the same about anything given the same treatment. Why make something a direct-prequel-not-a-reboot-honest if you're just going to change everything about the original? No, that's only a concern of over invested fanaticism. I always thought it strange in retrospect that the first time we saw that "D7-type" design, it was being used by Romulans.... and then they go ahead and sell it to those treacherous Romulans AS IF IT MEANS NOTHING!![]()
Why make TMP a direct sequel and change everything? Because they could and they wanted to.Of course it's just a TV show. Again, TMP went forward. Progress and change go hand in hand. Disco comes right between "The Cage" and TOS. It's like retconning a modern car to fit among 80's vehicles. Why make TMP a direct sequel and change everything? Because they could and they wanted to.
I understand you disagree, but I personally have no problem imagining the events of DSC so far transitioning into TOS and beyond.Of course it's just a TV show. Forward doesn't have to mean the next year, decade or Century.Again, TMP went forward. Progress and change go hand in hand. Disco comes right between "The Cage" and TOS. It's like retconning a modern car to fit among 80's vehicles.
