USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I still find the original Enterprise the most futuristic of them all. But, YMMV.
I find the ToS model to be too basic and low on detail to really contend with todays models, its perfectly understandable as the model was made half a century ago and was amazing at the time.

I do hope we get a Pike/Enterprise show or at the very least get to see the fully repaired and refitted ship when it picks up Pike after his time on the show comes to an end.

They did shoot themselves in the foot with the Nacelle shapes, they would have been better off making all of them round to match the Enterprise of the time, Discovery could have stayed square as it is a testbed for new technology.

The Shenzou especially sticks out like a sore thumb due to its square nacelles and being older than anything else we have seem, plus its upside down design which is discarded and never used again, they should have used a different design for Georgiou's ship.

I don't think they thought it through properly.

That is what makes it futuristic for me. IIRC, one of the things that Jefferies wanted was something simple that would indicate a radical departure in the technology of the time. For me, the more greeblies and other features they added as the franchise progressed made ships look less advanced.

It is still a YMMV kind-of-thing.

Doug Drexler designed the Enterprise NX-01 but even he says that the TOS Enterprise is a more advanced-looking starship than its 22nd century predecessor. Technology is largely contained on the inside of the TOS ship, leaving the surface relatively smooth except for important features like hull plating seams, weapons emitters and hatches. The TOS Enterprise is like a smooth, sleek creature of the ocean whereas Enterprise NX-01 is more of a utilitarian workhorse of exploration with more design weaknesses and visible points of exploitation for an enemy.

I still don't get the notion that a future that can turn matter into energy and back would have ships that look more piecemeal than a World War I submarine.

That's because Trek doesn't make sense when you focus on specifics. They spend some effort making up excuses for why things are the way they are, especially in regard to anything surrounding the magic transporter "technology."

It might simply be a design aesthetic of the 23rd Century. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all.

Could be. At the same time, that's the argument for reproducing the '60s Trek designs, and Discovery has largely rejected that.

The adherence to 23rd century style and aesthetics while still looking sleek and modern is the one and only contribution Axanar made to anything....

^^^ that is interesting to hear, and I’m wondering what this means for the design of the 1701, in terms of Discovery...

The infographic was obviously finished before the CGI model, it's based on the early design sketches only. And half the info doesn't match up.

The final model we see in the episode is more detailed than the one in the trailer so it underwent additional render passes. It's too expensive a model to redo anything about for the rest of the series.

Likely no more than when the Star Trek Beyond bridge graphics (and first trailer) all featured the ST'09/ID Enterprise and not the updated version with swept-back nacelles and a thinner neck. They just hasn't finalized the design yet.

It's also not unlike, IIRC, some of the graphics on the TMP bridge displays were actually of (some version of) the Phase II Enterprise. I'm not 100% sure, but that might have even carried over into TWOK.
