Season 2 Episode 1 is free to watch on the CBS All Access Youtube Channel (USA Only)

Really depends on your definition of action.

So far Season 2 has no shooting or combat, just... How do you describe it?

Maybe action does fit.

The vast majority posting here liked it.
Hardly anyone is being pessimistic. Look at the rating polls in the episode threads.
I gave about the same rating as everyone else. I like it but I'm not getting giddy. Seeing all of the advanced tech is unfortunate. Like that thing they do with throwing holograms around with their hand. That was never seen until star trek 2009. It's late 24th century romulan tech. Star Trek Discovery is better than nothing though.

Could you please name a Star Trek show that has always received a universally positive reaction?

I can't name any series that has always received a universally positive reaction. I guess that means there's no problem. OH wait, shows get canceled all the time.

Seeing as how TOS was pitched as an action adventure series, I'll disagree on this point.
People have a lot more to pick from these days. If they get turned off by something, it's easier for them to find something else. I thought continuum was better than this but that show got cancelled. Expanse was better too and then got cancelled from syfy but looks like amazon prime is going to try to save it.

I don't see a problem right now, based upon CBS' current production and reaction. I'm not going to look for problems where there are none.

And if Discovery gets cancelled then it gets cancelled. Fine by me. But, I'll watch it and support it while it is on.

By putting it on CBSAA They've essentially made it a long term investment.
Even if it gets cancelled, folks will still be able to access it with a monthly fee, and it doesn't cost CBS anything beyond what They pay to have all Their shows accessible in this manner.

Plus, They bring more money with DVD/Blu-ray sales.

It's win/win for them no matter how one looks at it.

This nonsense is poisonous to discussion and discourse. Happily, I'm not sure CBS cares. :)

No, it's a combination of people saying "Hail!" to Doomcock, complaining about the black female "captain," noting how CBS is spreading "its STD," and sharing other illuminating commentary that often devolves into "not real Star Trek." They've also under the impression that this is their chance to get through to CBS.

There's little to nothing substantial there, which is interesting, as the comments were rather positive or constructively critical prior to two channels in particular mobilizing their base around anti-SJW hate and such.

I don't see any comments complaining about the fact that Micheal Burnham is a black women. Maybe there's one or two out of 1600+ comments? But I don't see any.

People who don't like STD are in the minority? I see places like TrekBBS where the overwhelming majority like it, but I also see places where the overwhelming majority hate it. It seems pretty 50/50 to me from my internet travels, which isn't good thing for CBS.

I actually meant the minority abhor the show so much that they downvote and insult it at every possible juncture, but I can see how my words could easily be misconstrued.

Youtube has become a cesspool hangout for the alt-right and the not-so-alt-anymore-right. I guess it always was, and I did not notice.

Probably not smart to group all those who dislike the show as 'Alt-right.' Hasn't worked out well for other franchises who went there.

They weren't. But it was an amusing marketing tactic to save face for putting out inferior products.

Of course you don't see because racists and misogynists are not that stupid. They hide under ridiculous comments of the like:
  • Why does Michael Burnham have to be the hero of EVERY scene? It is absurd.
  • Michael Burnham is a thoroughly unlikeable character.
  • The rest of the cast are underdeveloped and used to support & justify the Michael Burnham.
  • They have an insecure woman child on the bridge who is more of a liability than Wesley Crusher.
  • I don't see color.
  • Burnham is the worst character in all of Star Trek.
  • Spock probably hated her.
  • Michael Burnham is Rey for Star Trek.
  • Michael Burnham is one detestable character.
  • I did not think a character could be a worse Mary Sue than Rey, but Burnham comes close.
  • Two minutes in and already hate the main character. Her moral grandstanding is annoying.
These are quotes only from a fragment of the comment section but they give a good overview. If someone writes such things seriously, it is only astronomically unlikely that in real life he is not a racist and misogynist.

Nah, that's nonsense.

I've seen enough YT vids and commentaries from fans that would agree with the above quotes, but still consider Sisko (and to a lesser extent Janeway) as awesome. They were well accepted. Sisko especially tends to rival Picard and Kirk among fans as the best.

Burnham is divisive because she's a shit character.

Nerdrotic Channel?

Because it seems he has the largest weekly audience for Star Trek content, and he regularly puts out videos to slam Discovery.

I did a 'Star Trek' search on YT, filtered by 'Week' and 'View Count' and his vids are at the top.

Doesn't surprise me that those who Dislike the show are united and vocal. These were the top viewed Star Trek videos that showed up;
