It's Disney on this particular instance and it's their property. Whatever contact Star Wars Theory had with LFL did not automatically preclude anyone from Disney intervening. No matter. The Internet armies are already up in arms about the evil corporations and daring to abuse helpless fans...feels like Axanar all over again.
He says not monetizing it is like going to work and not getting paid. I don't think making a fan film should be compared to working for a living. It's not something that you're supposed to make money off of. Kor
So turns out it wasn't Disney one who claimed monitization on the Music, it was distributor who owns the licence to distribute it from Disney. https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/agan8q/it_wasnt_disney_that_claimed_star_wars_theorys/
Well, see, that represents the issues that I had with the monetization problem that I indicated upthread initially. This account is definitely at odds with what Star Wars Theory presented in their video. The account in the video painted a picture that didn't fit together in a plausible way. This paints a much more plausible picture.
I know why they aren't going after reaction videos... They most likely would fall under fair use. No one will confuse them with a Star Wars film. It's why they don't go after reviews of Star Wars films that use the music. The Vader fanfilm goes to great lengths to look, feel and SOUND like a Star Wars film. For all "it's not about the money" he sure does talk about the money a lot. That said, I feel for him. He didn't want to be in the middle of this.
I enjoyed this film a lot. The heart behind it, and getting to see Vader do the things that made him so intimidating was a nice change. I loved that end scene in Rogue One. And I'd love to see Vader take on Mace in Episode 2. I think the guy who runs the Star Wars Theory channel is terrific. His thoughts are very much in line with my own, except that his passion for Star Wars is far more intense than mine.
After so many wrongs with Star Wars, Lucas finally did something wright. Now if only the next episode of this Vader series can film. Hell, a TV series might be nice.
It's still a fan production for an officially licensed one. I would be surprised at a "Star Trek Continues-esque" style series, but hopefully the fan passion will continue.
