I’d have preferred a prime universe Georgiou.

Section 31 is one of the weaker elements of Trek.

It could be a good show. My big concern is it’s going to be like “24 in space” with a message that “Empathy is weakness when security is at stake”. Which is the exact opposite of the point of Trek and exact opposite of message we need right now.
"Beyond the ability" doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile to explore.Georgiou is Hitler in space basically. A genocidal racist, who actually goes to the next level and even eats her subjects and has slaves.
This is the 'character' they are trying to glorify and redeem? Lol. That's way beyond the abilities of these showrunners and writers.
Clearly CBS are going toward having at least one and possibly two Star Trek shows on at all times of the year but they need to be careful that they don't reach saturation point with so much Star Trek, its bound to affect the writing as well with so many scripts needed and the plotlines may end up suffering for it.
Also they need to make sure they aren't scraping the barrel when it comes to ideas, they seem to be grabbing at anything they can at the moment to try and make something out of it.
I can understand a show set around S31 is appealing as it has never really been covered and it makes sense that Starfleet would have their own clandestine organisation to fight the Tal'Shiar and Obsidian Order in the shadows, I do also appreciate that some will not be happy about it as it will truly make S31 a legitimate part of the Star Trek universe.
I am all for having a couple of shows per year as long as they are strong enough to stand on their own, I hope CBS knows what its doing because Netflix isn't going to be so generous with funding a second time around.
The biggest danger is that CBS may actually start to think they can attempt the unthinkable, doing a reboot of ToS (I wouldn't have an issue with it but I know some will), at this rate they will have covered everything else and with the 4th Film no longer moving forward we could eventually see a recast Kirk on the TV to go along with the recast Spock.
Discovery could easily lead into a recast ToS show unless they stick with following the Enterprise before Kirk takes over, if that happens we are talking reboot territory.
Its a slippery slope.
Hard pass. One TOS is more than enough for me.I've long said that a recast Star Trek using the original characters is the way forward, and I stick to that opinion.

I don't see how that can be a bad thing.
Much rather 4 or 5 years of 16 episode seasons of this than cartoons, Academy shit, Section 31, or dare I say it, an old past his prime Picard.
I would also like to see a series set between Star Trek 6 and TNG but if they're going to wedge in a load of stuff that doesn't need to be like the Orc Klingon War then I'd rather they didn't bother.
That's what's popular.I agree. I would love to see a show that takes place between TUC and the events of "Yesterday's Enterprise." But apparently that ship has sailed in favor of TPTB thinking we want to see old Picard and a show about some psychopath and her psychopath organization.
That's what's popular.
That's what's talked about over and over again.I'm not sure I'd go that far.

Better?
You don't have to, CBS is sure to prime the Trek pump as much as it can, just like it's other formulaic series such as JAG, & CSI.I'll certainly give Section 31 a fair shake, but I'd be lying if I said I was optimistic about it.
