I've found a supposed original 35mm film reel of the original TMP trailer in 1080p:

    They should've revealed Spock last.

Wow, that was even slower than the actual movie.

I have to wonder if that shot of Scotty is from the deleted scene of Decker showing Ilia around Engineering? It's definitely not in the final movie.

Classic move on the part of whoever decided to get Orson Welles to narrate this trailer, since Robert Wise was the man responsible for recutting The Magnificent Ambersons.

Which is hilarious because Olson Welles hated Robert Wise as a result of that.

    That opening shot tho.

Who knew V'Ger was a 70s Republican convention?

I wish they'd release an un-restored version of TMP (and the other TOS Films) on Blu-Ray. Just so it looks like film stock overplayed in a theater. I can't be the only one who likes the dirtier, "old movie" look.

I kind of wish they did, like, an on-line only teaser for ST09 (or one of the other new movies, but '09 would've made the most sense) that recreated this, with the new cast. Not for wide release, but a bit of fan-service fun, like the limited-run homage to the TMP poster for Beyond. But who could match Orson Welles? Michael Ansara was still alive at the time, he's got a good stentorian tone, and he's a Trek alum. Maybe Keith David, if you wanted to do one today?

Well, maybe I'll be in charge of Star Trek by the time they take another whack at remaking TOS.

I first saw this trailer in November 1979; it made a most unlikely juxtaposition with that night's feature: an adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's The Magician of Lublin starring Alan Arkin.

I wonder who created the (analog) synthesizer soundtrack?

I love that shot of the Enterprise deflector dish towards the beginning. It looks like test footage, not to mention all the other bits and pieces that never appeared in the movie, like Mr Scott's introduction. Very cool!

Well, you shoot a lot of coverage for a film like this, and given how lit up the core is, I'd say that shot was made for when the ship was under attack or fighting the tractor beam.

I'd imagine it's the sound-effects team from the film, whose names escape me, given how seamless it transitions from the intro to the interior warp-drive effect from the film and then continues past it.

That reminds me of an old VHS copy of "It's A Wonderful Life" I have. It was obviously transferred from an old film strip of the movie as it has all the splotches you'd expect to see in an old filmstrip. I refuse to replace it with a restored DVD version, at least until it gives out on me. When I watch it I feel like I'm back in school when they were still showing films from reels in class, or when I used to go to the movies and they had films reels as well (though they were still of better quality then what we watched in class)

And yeah, that'd be kind of cool for some of the older Star Trek films. I love the restored version, and keep hoping for the day TMP gets a Blu-Ray release of the Directors Edition (come on Paramount, it's 40 years this year, what better time). But I'd love to have a copy of an unaltered film copy like you described.

Wasn’t Scotty wearing the radiation suit for those scenes?

The music at the end there reminded me of the dolby THX ads that always play before watching a movie on disc.

Guess Jerry Goldsmith hadn't written the score yet.

A very cool, nostalgic piece of Trek movie media. Awesome find!
