And yeah, that'd be kind of cool for some of the older Star Trek films. I love the restored version, and keep hoping for the day TMP gets a Blu-Ray release of the Directors Edition (come on Paramount, it's 40 years this year, what better time). But I'd love to have a copy of an unaltered film copy like you described.

I'm still waiting for the Special Longer Version. Though I imagine I will be deep in the cold, cold ground before it ever happens.

Yeah. It seems that is the one version that gets left out in the cold. I never actually saw the original theatrical version. The only ones I saw were the special longer version that came out on VHS back in the 80's (I still have my copy of that one, I remember it was $39.95 when it came out). And I have the directors edition on DVD.

I haven't bought TMP on Blu-Ray yet. I'm holding out for the 40th Anniversary Special Edition that I'm sure Paramount will want to release this year
