You do know you don't have to watch it, right?

I suspect they're gonna make some changes to that backstory and have Pike end season two in the beepy wheelchair. The saving cadets thing will just be a Section 31 cover story.

    I doubt it

One thing we'll soon learn more about is the Talosians, supposedly, and according to backstage hints and promises.

Does this mean flashbacks that may or may not contradict "The Cage"? Or Pike's return to the planet, certainly an event allowed for in the context of "The Cage" and "The Menagerie" and perhaps helping understand certain aspects of the latter? The latter would of course be more fun, for the novel content.

I, too, doubt TPTB will put Pike in the wheelchair in a different context. They already sorta pulled that one on us at the conclusion of the 2009 film, and had their laughs. Making the character a cripple in the DSC context would lack in shock value (because we already know this will happen to him) and limit the character, in dubious exchange for whatever a sessile character or a poor man's Dalek would bring to the show.

Well they never actually said when the order to make Talos IV forbidden started. It was implied to have been after the first visit obviously

And of course the other visit we already saw took place in blatant contravention of the order. Pike and/or Spock might have made another such foray earlier on, with similar lack of consequences. Or then "The Menagerie" was the consequence.

Even after all they've been through, I would think the Discovery crew wouldn't be so petty and small-minded as to hold ReguLorca responsible for the actions of his MU counterpart.

I hope Pike is true to his name and took out a complement of nasty Klingons with all that Enterprise damage...

According to one of the Episode 1 reviews

The Enterprise was off in Deep Space during the war, they didn’t see any action

If they ever make Tilly a Captain, I'm certain I won't be watching.

But lets see if this show can make it beyond this season first, small steps.

She's already a Captain ... Killy in the Mirror Universe.
And STO is introducing that particular character into the game in a few weeks.

Tilly won’t be captain in Discovery’s lifetime. She only just made Ensign.

They could hint that the visit did have a lasting effect on him, perhaps he even has some connection to them to some extent which tortures him at times.

I doubt the chair will be revisited, maybe we'll see how he's the kind of man who is willing to sacrifice his own safety for someone under his command. He puts his own life at risk and always manages to escape death, but one day his luck is going to run out. I would like that if we ever did see the chair, it's not as bad as that one. Limiting a person to only yes or no seems like a torture out of a Black Mirror episode. Even today we have technology superior to that, Prof. Stephen Hawking even appeared on TNG with his. Maybe it could be handwaved that it was a special chair due to the nature of the trial, making it impossible to lie.

But Hawking had a fully working brain. Pike could be incapable of producing expressions more complex than "Yeah yeah yeah!" or "Nononono badbadbaaaad!", despite otherwise retaining his faculties.

Indeed, while the audiences in the 1960s might not have been all that well versed in medicobabble, audiences today should be familiar with the sort of aphasia that Pike apparently is suffering from. No matter what the medium, speech, writing, gestures, cybernetic soundbox, he could quite plausibly be incapable of putting together a sentence or otherwise applying language for expression.

I rather think there was nothing left of Pike below his chest, and the "chair" was in fact his body now - not a motion aid, but the forum of all his life processes save thinking and (possibly) vision and hearing.

DSC certainly doesn't shy away from showing prosthetics for the disabled: many sidekick characters wear those due to Burnham's War. What Pike wears could well be state of the art as far as entire replacement bodies go.

He didn’t have the accident until after he left the Enterprise. That’s still a good 9 years away.

It's best to avoid it, his fate seems worse than death.

From co-writer and co-producer of the movie that made third-year cadet James Kirk into captain of the Federation flagship?

I'm guessing Killy's rise to the top of the Mirror Universe's USS Discovery was similarly meteoric.
