I've always assumed a Bad Robot TNG film would basically be set in the Kelvinverse and go from there. The opening scene would be the destruction (rather than loss) of the Stargazer, and we see how that loss still affects Picard because he essentially lost a family in his crew. Have Jack Crusher die at that point, which sets up Picard feeling uneasy with his reunion with Beverly because he feels a certain amount of guilt over not being able to save his best friend. In a lot of ways that first film's depiction of TNG's first adventure is what reinvigorates Picard, as he quickly finds a new family among the new crew and so the nuTNG films move from there.

Whether you believe Midnight's Edge or not, their report came true.

Without investor funding, there was no doubt this film would be cancelled.

Was it lack of investors or lack of Chris's? Seems like the director has moved on as well now to the Game of Thrones prequel.

I say losing Chris Pine is what ultimately did this in. Without your star, you don't get a lot of investors.

If ST4 was a generic film, they may have recast and continued. But the story built directly upon the prior movies. Paramount didn't want to pay the Chris' what they previously agreed upon, so the movie was dead there and then.

I'm sure Midnight's Edge will be recording their next video one-handed.

Neither you, nor I, nor Midnight’s Fucking Edge know WHY the film has been shelved. Could they be correct? Sure. But based on their track record, they are more likely to be guessing until they get it right. It also could be because Paramount’s box office has been in the toilet since Marvel was acquired by Disney. Paramount will likely be the next one to be acquired by another studio. Just the question of which one.

I worked with one of the Chris's in October. He said at that point he wanted to do it but it was "with his agent". So who knows. Doesn't look like we will see anything before 2020, if ever.

yes it is true that the only thing that makes you want to see an Orci Trek 3 is just to see how it shit the bed but it does not work with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 because THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is the best

That I agree, it's actually one of my guilty pleasures. It's like a 90s superhero movie that's been in stasis for 20 years.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I think it was just obvious that if they don't want to pay both Chris accordingly, they had to get a new story and give the dad one up so that they only need Chris Pine and the rest of the cast.

No one knows if they are trying to make a new story just now or not. But the fact we couldn't have the rumored forth movie with his dad without both Kirk and his dad was just an easy guess.
The rest of what this video said is still unfounded speculations, not to mention the stuff that was just far fetched and wrong.

You'd think they'd be able to pay Pine what was agreed, ditch Hemsworth and recast him or ditch that story entirely and put something out for 100-120m. If that makes Beyond's numbers it would still be profitable surely. Seems daft to abandon this timeline because of a salary dispute.

From what I've heard, the whole reason they wanted Hemsworth was to attract investors to the movie. They literally pitched this to investors as a movie bound to be more successful than Beyond because Hemsworth was in it. If they dropped him officially and went with Pine alone, a lot of the money they were pitching for would have walked out the door. Which it did anyway once he and Pine walked away.

The JJ-Verse is dead. Discovery is next, IMO.

I always thought it was a poor idea. Hemsworth isn't a draw outside the MCU anyway.

Hemsworth and the plot of ST4 were announced the week before Beyond was released, so "more successful than Beyond" doesn't hold water because it hadn't disappointed yet.

I would argue that no actor is, not really. The draw of movies today is the concept/idea/spectacle of it. Good actors help of course, but they aren't the main attraction anymore.
