I feel that. Keep in mind, QT is super keen on JJ Trek, and I imagine his enthusiasm might take a dive if they tell him to re-cast it. One of the things QT was so pumped on was the casting of JJ Trek. I'm sure the performances to date informed his approach to the project. So it kind of makes no sense if Paramount said, okay QT, "here you go, here's your Trek film. Oh, BTW, you have to recast all of these iconic roles. LOL."

I think they should jump to TNG and start a-fresh. If you can't get Pine then it can't happen and the longer you wait, the less people will care. A new project though like ST09 would drive excitement again and come on who wouldn't love to see an updated version of the Borg? Just me

I'm just afraid Trekantino will be a big nerdfest.

I agree on the new project but disagree vehemently about the Borg.

    No more Borg! Ever again.

I'd love to see a 21st Century big budget interpretation of the Borg. I was watching First Contact the other night and I couldn't help feeling how cheap and naff they now look.

You can't reboot TNG and ignore The Borg. That would be like no Daleks in Doctor Who, No Cylons in BSG, No Snake Heads in Stargate. The Borg may of been damaged by B&B post First Contact but they are the biggest villains in Star Trek and have great potential in a reboot.

I certainly could reboot Trek and ignore it with no problem. The other examples are you reference are based upon those villains as centralized figures in those franchises and are not fair comparisons. Even Stargate moved away from the Goa'uld as villains, and introduced a lot more hostiles in the Replicators, and the Ori. The Borg are not central to Trek and I could reboot Trek without the Borg, just like I could without Khan.

The Borg have been done to death, in my opinion, and would be genuinely curious to know what possible reboot would help with their being reduced from a fear villain to being defeated time and again by a single Starfleet ship?

If they rebooted the Borg for the big screen, I suspect/hope they would be a proper re-imagining, using CG to replace body parts with technology instead of Uncle Fester makeup and rubber suits.

I'd like to see a return to the unstoppable plague of locusts like they were originally conceived - Who says they have to be defeated by a single starship? Or even defeated at all? They could just be driven out of federation space by other means. We could see the federation team up with an adversary to do it even. I think there's still potential there for a great movie as long as the portrayal is done well and makes them scary and alien again, and not just some guys in rubber suits.

If they go back to the original portrayal then I see the potential.

I'm not saying they have to be defeated by a single starship but I would want them to be defeated. I don't like villains who are easily upturned or impossible forces of nature. To my mind, the Borg have been both, and a lot in between, so I struggle with exactly what more people want to be done with the Borg?

Maybe we could get a peek of their origins.

ST09 did origin and reboot all at once. I'm not saying any TNG movie should be about the origins of the Borg, I like the idea they predate the Federation as Voyager hinted in the Dragon Teeth episode where it was stated they were in control of an handful of system back in the 20th century?

If the Borg were in a movie, I would just like a tease, a peek into their past origins in some manner.

It's looking like Tarantino or nothing at this stage now, and I've got big reservations that that project will ever get off the ground. Depressing.

Rest in Peace, Star Trek 4. There were many Star Treks, but the Kelvin universe was my Star Trek.

Yes, but my question is "How is that a reboot" if we are revisiting the origins of the race based upon their presentation in TNG and VOY?

Now, I'll admit my bias but I don't see this a) going the way fans of the Borg think and b) being satisfactory.

I suspect a TNG film would be a "visual reboot" along the lines of DSC, possibly getting into origins. I'm just guessing there is less of a need for an actual reboot like 2009, as there's been less of a stretch of time, so less of a need to radically change the look and re-cast. But guaranteed people will hate it, when they get around to it.
