News Alex Kurtzman: Star Trek Picard Series Will Be “Extremely Different” From ‘Discovery’

More "real world". Yay?

Maybe we can have a special episode about the trials of prostate issues that get men up at all hours of the night to urinate?

Say, since the Picard series is official can it get it's own section (probably under Voyager since it takes place in 2399) ?

BTW, very excited for this show!

"Real World" can mean many things. A show that downplays the tech or a show that is about modern social isssues. It can be more gritty and edgy. Since I am not sure this show is going to be fully ship based I am guessing more about issues and less advanced tech will be the way they go. I am thinking something like "Lost" since they guy making it was apart of "Lost." Combine a great deal of raw human drama with a otherworldly type of mystery which in that shows case was the island. Like "Lost" I think the tech will often be very basic and even retro in how it is used. The aliens though might be the opposite and more weird than we are use to.

That would be something to ask in QSF, but I expect that it’s way too soon.
It needs an official name before it gets a forum. I wonder what their reveal plan is. If DSC runs straight for 14 weeks we are looking at a late April finale. I am guessing some sort of trailer will be ready by then. Hopefully there will be more details sooner.

More grounded and more real world, sounds like it will be less scifi, less action, more about the characters. Hopefully it will not be about Picard playing Dixon Hill all the time.

But Kurtzman also says Season 2 of Discovery is more grounded. Maybe it just means less Klingons in Picard.

He described the differences as "Discovery" being more like a bullet and the new Picard show being more contemplative like the old show. Which means a little less pew, pew pew. and more character drama or exploration or investigation. That's my guess. I think the show also will be more Picard centric and less of a ensemble like TNG and the Berman era shows were. Especially since you will have fewer ep's to work with so all of them will in some way revolve around Picard so it means Lt Craig one of your new regulars doesn't get a episode that focuses on him falling in love with a Vulcan secret agent or something like that. Unless it connects to Picard in some fashion.

I'm fine with less Klingon as long as 'Picard' got the Klingon's design & makeup right :hugegrin:.

So... "Final Mission: The Series"?

Shame it's going to be different, I was really looking forward to seeing Michael Dorn in full DSC make-up.

I don't think "different from Discovery" includes make-up. If there are Klingons, expect them to look like Discovery's (which, from what we've seen, are now a step closer to TMP/TNG Klingons).
