    Loved the short, but...

Start taking bets on whether/when they'll get shutdown by Lucasfilm because the funding approach being taken (including unlicensed merch, will Vader dark roast coffee be next?) is no different from Axanar.

He has a video on his channel where he explains that he might up with Lucasfilm and has approval and how he was allowed to fund it. He's using Patreon where people can support his channel, and he uses that money to pay for the movie. Crowdfunding for the movie itself wasn't allowed.

I really want a Vader movie :wah: that scene near the end of Rogue One with him just crushing the Rebel Soldiers was such a great moment and for me proves a Vader movie would work.

Wonder who the powerful Jedi is? Don't think its Obi-Wan, could be Mace.

Not to throw off this thread this is also one of my favorite Star Wars 'villain' fan films:

Only if the movie is him slaughter rebel soldiers :vulcan:

But, the Vader comics did alright so that might be of interest. Hopefully get Dr. Aphra too.

Never said I wanted the whole film to be that.

Can I then ask how one scene in Rogue One proves a Vader movie would work?

    It was a simple question...

ETA: Let me frame it another way. I love lightsabers as much as any Star Wars fan. I have worked on at least Star Wars fan films and provided choreography for another. But, good fight choreography doesn't make a story. So, the reason for my question is that a short scene of Vader slashing guys doesn't prove to me a Vader film would work because a film is more than that.

So, why is this question so unreasonable that it requires a snarky response rather than an answer?

One of the best things about Vader during the OT was that he never really did any fighting except during duels. Please let's not turn Darth Vader from a character into an action hero.

    The joy of originality, eh?

Yeah, I agree that giving Vader big action scenes is not necessary. He’s imposing enough as he is.

I haven't, but Star Wars has been relying on the lightsaber for a long time now. The lightsabers of today are completely different from those of the OT trilogy. They're more like superhero gadgets than space swords, just like Jedi are now more like superheroes, especially in the EU. I'm guessing no movie with Vader will be considered complete in the future without a few gratuitous fight scenes.

If ANH came out today, you can bet the opening scene would feature Vader deflecting laser blasts and cutting through rebel soldiers instead of waiting for the ship to be secured.

Palpatine described the Jedi as using an amethyst blade, and when Vader is above the hole at the end you can see a slight purple glow. So pretty sure it's Mace.

I agree. People seem to think that Vader's power relies solely in his combat prowess, and yet, his larger than life scenes are the ones when he is being intimidating, and use of the Force as his power.

It seems to be a lost art of the idea that a character can create fear and intimidation through sheer presence alone. Now it must be accomplished through lightsaber beatdowns.

True. I'm sorry, but that movie seems to completely miss the point of OT Darth Vader and entirely sidestep how perfectly he was developed. I guess he's just someone to swing a lightsaber around. Looking forward to the fan movie where he jumps up a mumakil, kills everyone at the top, then slides down the trunk. Darth Maul will be at the bottom to remind him it only counts as one. Then they'll duel over it, but Darth Maul will have TWO double-bladed lightsabers instead of just one. So badass.
