The Down Under Lounge

Merry Christmas , all.

I was worried when I went to bed about how the people in Opal Tower where going to spend their Christmas but some have been allowed to return to their homes but people from 51 apartments that are deemed structurally unsafe were only allowed to return to retrieve their belongings (and I assume their pets).

I would not want to stay in the building even if my apartment had been deemed to be safe.

That is what I was wondering. They have said that the building is not in danger of collapse but that 51 of the apartments are unsafe.

I did read somewhere that police had to bash down some doors to get people out after the cracking was heard and the doors became stuck.

Today I saw a HUGE redback at the entrance to a block of flats in the city, it was massive. I crushed it to death with my foot. Afterwards I regretted not taking a pic of it but at the time I was just thinking holy shit what if someone puts their hand out on this wall in the evening while getting out there keys and..

Anyway. It's dead.

I love how that MP who chated on his wife with the sugarbabe or whatever is like "ah it's nothing carry on" and yet their side is always the one that crows about moral values.

You know it's hot in Australia when
1) the best carpark is determined by shade, not distance
2) hot water comes out of both taps
3) you learn that the belt buckle makes a good branding iron
4) the temp drops below 32 degrees and you feel chilly.
5) you learn it only takes 2 fingers to steer a car
6) you can sunburn through the windscreen of car
7) you develop a fear of door handles
8) you break into a sweat at 7am
9) your biggest bicycle fear is "what if I get knocked out and end up cooking on the road"
10) you realise that asphalt is a liquid state
11) farmers are feeding ice to chicken to prevent hard boiled eggs
12) trees are whistling for dogs
13) shopping centres are temples where you worship air conditioning
14) sticking your head in the freezer is considered normal
15) a cupful of ice is considered a good snack
16) a blackout is a life threatening even because the air conditioners and fans stop working
17) you keep everything in the fridge - including clothes
18) the effort to dry yourself after a shower means you need another shower right away
19) you worry the ceiling fan is spinning so far it's going to fly off and kill you
20) you laugh because you know this list is so accurate.

Indeed very, very accurate.

They showed a guy frying an egg on a shovel the other day on the news.
