News Short Treks - "The Escape Artist" Teaser

The Tellarite mask is WAY worse than the make-up they used on ENT!

Seriously. It's not even "make-up" anymore. It's a straight up Halloween-mask: Completely solid, no movement whatsoever, and the actor can't even speak through it. It's worse than their Klingon masks!

How did make-up on Star Trek got so much WORSE since the Berman-era????

They mention a lot of Murders and Homicides that Harry has apparently taking part in...
Thank goodness the next ten years mellows him out a bunch.

I credit it to the Rehabilitation Centers that Kirk kept talking a little too much about in "Dagger of the Mind". "I've been to them!" Yes, Captain, you only said that 10 times.

They really don't know what they're doing, arent't they?

The "and you slept with my sister"-part was genuine funny, and in TOS lovable-rogue character.

The "and 20 homicides" reminds us again that they're doing essentially an R-rated kids show.
Not the good kind (like Batman TAS) though, that deals with real adult issues. No, they are esentially doing a schlocky "Power Rangers" with graphic gore and violence (But no consensual sex or cursing in swear words! It's a kids show after all!).

Harry confessed to more than twice as many. Unfortunately in the penultimate loop of "Magic to Make", so history doesn't record these fine deeds...

Looks like fun, but I do agree the 20 counts of homicide things is a surprise.

Looks good to me. You must live somewhere where they've got some amazing people selling Halloween masks, because I've sure never seen one that good. I'll gladly take it over the forehead wrinkle of the week we got during Berman era Trek.

Mudd: I killed a maaaan!!!! Dirty Harry!!!! That's what they call me!

Thug: Wasn't that a 20th Century Earth movie?

Mudd: Besides the point! I killed a man! 20 in fact! You better ask yourself. Did my phaser have six blasts or only five?

Thug: Not buying it.

Mudd: Yes, well, this is the part where I... run like Hell!!!!!

Exactly. Pretty much how I read it.
I've always figured Harry to be the kind of guy who really isn't evil at heart, he just wants everybody to think so.

I think his murdering mayhem on board the Discovery wasn't premeditated.
The first time he killed Lorca was probably an accident.
Then when he finally realized after many repetitions that he wasn't ever going to escape till he figured out a way to get the crew to help him, he began doing it just for the fun of it.
His ultimate goal was to get the spore drive plans and leave, the Lorca bit was just some frosting on his cake.
(that he neither ate or even got)

I still beluieve everything shown on ST: D WRT Harry Mudd is before he was sent to Frderation rehab:
From TOS (S1) - "Mudd's Women":
http://www.chakoteya.net/StarTrek/4.htm
MUDD: Harry Mudd.

COMPUTER: Incorrect.

MUDD: Harcourt Fenton Mudd.

SPOCK: Any past offenses, Mister Mudd?

MUDD: Of course not. Gentlemen, I'm simply an honest businessman.

COMPUTER: Incorrect.

MUDD: Blast that tin-plated pot.

COMPUTER: Full data coming on screen.

RUTH: If it can read our minds, too.

MUDD: It can't, darling. It can't. Just what's on the record.

COMPUTER: Offense record. Smuggling. Sentence suspended. Transport of stolen goods. Purchase of space vessel with counterfeit currency. Sentences, psychiatric treatment, effectiveness disputed.

"Sentences, psychiatric treatment, effectiveness disputed."
^^^
It may indeed be that prior to this (IE in the time frame of ST: D) Harry Mudd was a bit meaner, and a bit more sociopathic then after the treatment, so perhaps it was effective to a point.

Perhaps it's "effectiveness" was questionable because he isn't the psychopath he wantes people to think he is?
He's a Conman, not a Maniacal Murderer but he got so caught up in his own falsehoods that it gets him incarcerated at a "Treatment" center where he has to "con" the doctor's into thinking he's "cured" to be released.
All he has to do is Not Act.
;)

Maybe “I’ve been falsely accused” plays a part.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to it.

It would be funny as Hell if he has bragged so often about his "multiple kills" that it has been blown out of proportion now and has backfired on him.
Yeah, this would definitely work, and fit Mudd's preestablished character. I wouldn't be surprised if half the stuff he's done, or been accused of doing, was BS.
