Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

In fact, our way of life should not be preserved. We need to convert to a more sustainable way of life. Yet, we choose to be a cancer on this world. Truly are. In so many ways. Us arrogant humans. Us band of bastards.

Careful. You're starting to sound like "the Project" from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.

HOA. Home Owners Association?

We don’t have those here. Thank F.

The pavement and roads are maiantained by the local authority, which is good because I have a thorny bush encroaching on to the pavement and my neighbours land that I will deal with eventually.

I once lived in a house on an unadopted road, and that caused grief for the home owners. Victoria was on the throne the last time the street was paved. It was a constant source of tension. Luckily I was only renting.

They exsist in the UK. Housing Associations can act in the manner @auntiehill described and developments in gated communities too.

^ I think you'll find that threats and fatalism are not the best ways to win converts to your cause.
It wasn't a prescription for approach... just venting. But absolutely agree, best way to win converts to a cause is educating out of interests and concerns instead of sensationalizing doom... although at times a jolt is needed to get people to wake up. ;)

We are so screwed...

NY Times: The Insect Apocalypse

This isn't just another "doomsday" article. This is very different (and only one of many that has come before it -- there was a wave of such articles back in 2017). And it's real. Slow motion real... so slow, most people don't see it and it's therefore so easy to deny, like those assholes who claim that climate change theory is a hoax.

It's too late to retard the problem in time to preserve our way of life. In fact, our way of life should not be preserved. We need to convert to a more sustainable way of life. Yet, we choose to be a cancer on this world. Truly are. In so many ways. Us arrogant humans. Us band of bastards.

Like the problem of the immovable object and the unstoppable force... This is not gonna end well!

The climate change denial is representative of a glaring issue in society as a whole -- that people are willing to hide in denial if there's information they don't want to accept... and rather than passively ignoring it, they'll lash out and create "alternative facts" to dispute claims that go against their desires and intentions. It's a variation on the "dumbing down" of populations. I really don't know where this populist surge is going to go... it's not like the past at all, because today the little obscure ignorant voice can be heard easily via social networks, whereas before they had just their small cliques to rant with. The village idiots are not just in the square shouting at the homes around them. They have a bullhorn that can broadcast clear across the globe.

Let's not pretend that truths were easily accepted in the past. From the Theory of Evolution, over the causality between smoking and lung cancer, right to the very thing we're talking about here, climate change, there's been heavy societal opposition. But it played out in court rooms and old media instead of social media.

For some reason, my mom CANNOT understand anything I say on the phone. NO ONE else has an issue understanding me. Most of the time she talks over me and completely ignores what I'm asking or saying. She doesn't seem to have the issue with other people, and as I said, no one else has that problem with me.

See, the thing is, my mom also seems to not hear me in person, too.

It's like she's programmed not to hear or understand me.

I think that might be a mom thing. Back in my student days, when the phone rang in our huge student house and I would answer, the moms would talk at me, like I was their own child, even though i lived with southerners, and my accent sounds like the entire cast of Last of the Summer wine, and the current series of Doctor Who, and some of my house mates were girls, and even after telling them that I wasn’t who they thought I was.

Moms are moms.

My mom and mother in law are the same way. They say I mumble! :censored:

I hate the sound of my own voice. I am always embarrassed to hear myself talk...I sound like a 45 RPM single played at 33. You'd think I have enough marbles in my mouth to form my own LEAGUE. The only song in history that I can successfully sing is "16 Tons". :alienblush:

That said, I think I can do a fair imitation of the movie preview guy...

Jean-Claude Van Damme is back...in The Same Shit You've Seen Over And Over And Over Again...

I think most people hate their voice. That's mostly because we're unfamiliar with it as we never truly hear it. But I am told that professionals (for examples) that hear their recorded voice on a regular basis, get used to it.

I cannot stand the sound of my own voice when I hear recordings of it, but as people have said, most people don't like their own voices.

I swear I sound like Ira Flatow in recordings.

Anyway, does anyone know if something like this exists:? I'm looking for a small desktop rack or enclosure that has several (3-5) 5.25-inch drive bays but not necessarily for hard drives. I'm looking for something that I can mount front-panel USB panels and possibly other types of control panels, etc.

I have a Thermaltake Core P5 case which has no front drive bays. I would like something on my desk that mimics front drive bays and panels but is not part of the case, itself. Something I can run USB 3.0 MB cables to (not normal USB cables, but header cables) and other internal cables (SATA power, etc.).

I can't seem to find anything at all. All I can find are 5.25 to 3.5 or 2.5 docks that mount in PC cases in the 5.25 slots. I want 5.25 slots, so something like this would not apply for my purposes even if I were to just set it on my desktop.

Basically, I'm looking for a small case that has 5.25 bays, but no place for a MB or back panel, fans, etc.

Or will I need to make something?

Prayer doesn't come naturally to me. I'm like Claudius from Hamlet.

"My words fly up,
my thoughts remain below,
words without thought never to heaven go."

Yeah, but you'd think society would progress... that given the plethora of information available today, resisting the truth would be more difficult. Instead, it just makes the people denying it to look far more foolish to those that understand. Thus, too many don't understand.
