Aquaman - The Fish Guy Movie Thread

I don't think the traditional Aquaman costume doesn't suit Momoa visually. Which makes me wonder if this was the reason why Snyder had a different costume designed for him. If so, he made the right choice, because the "traditional" Aquaman costume looks odd on Momoa.
I think it looks fine.
Why does this have to be about tradition? Why does everything have to be about tradition in pop culture these days? It seems as if a lot of "artists", readers, moviegoers and TV viewers have lost their balls when it comes to originality. Why are people so afraid of artistic and pop culture originality?
If you are adapting something, then you should bring over recognizable elements from the source material, and one of the best ways to do that for superheroes is their costume. By bringing over the costume you are able to have a quick visual that tells everyone this is that character.
If you're looking for originality you might want to avoid adaptations.
Here are a few non-adaptation movies I've enjoyed you might want to check out:
Bad Times at The El Royale (this is the most recent one, and is out on DVD/Blu-Ray on Jan. 1)

Why do so many people insist, today, on being so fucking traditional? Jesus! Can't they learn to embrace something new or non traditional? What am I saying? Of course not. We're now living in the age of mediocre conformity.

Exactly. Most superhero movie costumes of this century are not pen-for-pen perfect adaptations of the comics, but in some cases, their costumes are unmistakably tied to a distinct character and identity the filmmakers are trying to turn into a living representation. Straying too far from that just for some unjustified need to be "different" risks alienating audiences. We have seen that kind of failure play out on movie theatres and TV in recent history. The "why" is a lesson that should not be difficult to understand.

If you're looking for originality you might want to avoid adaptations.

Again...exactly. The best comic adaptations respect the source instead of trying to turn it into something that suits a current climate whim, studio preference or anything else that would turn the adaptation into an entirely new animal. If the traditional is such a burr in the ass for some, then yeah....they can discover other films that are all about changing a source for the hell of it..

Hey..does any know some reliable reviews for the 3-d version (or really..who will be a good spurce once reviews can come out)?

Considering James Wan is the director...I have a feeling this COULD be a great 3-d film..but not sure if I want to risk the money.
.but an restful review could help...

Not sure the movie has been released to critics yet.

I am sure it hasn't...but wondering if there is a critic who can say if a movie worth the 3d cost...

A childhood friend, Devin Faraci, stopped reviewing 3d versions (this was before his fall)...but wondering if someone else would.

Wow, I was surprised when I saw her name associated with this kind of movie. She's definitely not someone who comes to mind when I think of comic book movies.

I haven't done 3D in ages, but after seeing the trailer in the theater during the week, I'm thinking it might be worth it, if it's done well.

You mean the same person who lent her voice to the Shrek and Despicable Me movies? ;)

Nah, this isn't a surprise at all.

Good point. I forgot about Shrek and had no idea she did the Dispicable Mes.
