He was too young to have a beard in The Cage.
Vulcan nerd/late puberty.
Season one TOS, he knew the pon far was coming and young winy women complain about beard rash like the dickens, because they still have ultra-romantic expectations from Disney.
So there's this very thin sliver of a window between where Spock can grow a beard, and he can't tap anything(anyone) if he keeps a beard.
Poor bastard.

Says who? Just because they're logical, it doesn't mean EVERY Vulcan is either 'meat/tidy' or a scientific genius. I'm sure some find a very liogical reason to be 'messy' at times.

They have super memory, compared to humans.
It doesn't matter where they put their own stuff, in their personal spaces.
Public assets in public spaces however, the social contract does call for keeping to an agreed upon system.

Vulcans also have a lot of traditions that do not always appear to follow logic.
So? That means that all the traditions are abandoned? No more Pon Farr, or Mt. Selyah, or Kohlinar ceremonies? Those all look very logical.
I think the anti-bearders and wannabe-purists forget that Star Trek is a product of the '60s. Which means growing your hair out, including facial hair, if you can get away with it... and especially if you can't get away with it.
Of course, I'm also biased. At least when it comes to long hair. I've never grown a beard in my life. Any time I've ever tried, I've given up after a few days because the super-itchy phase is too much for me. If that's not a test of endurance of some sort, I don't know what is. So here's to Spock for toughing it out and not going crazy.
