Surely something good happened to you today

Speaking of breakfast, my good for the day is that these are finally back, and I had some today for the first time this season! :D

I was able to get my second 16GB of RAM today. Having only 16GB has been slowing me down considerably, needing to restart at least every hour or so when I'm working heavily. I'm a messy worker with tens of windows and tabs open at a time, including 3ds Max, Photoshop, CorelDraw, etc...and my Max projects are not generally very light on polygons. Guess I need to learn more about proxy objects.

Still, a total of 32GB is going to be much better.

As well, while I was waiting for a Microcenter employee to finish up with his previous customer so I could ask him to retrieve my RAM, I overheard him ask the customer (father-son pair) how much memory he needs (the son. He was somewhere between 18-22 or so) and asked him what he does (animator using Blender and ZBrush) and suggested that 16GB should be fine. I motioned to the employee with my hand, holding up three fingers and quickly switching to two. He said, "What?" I told him my story that I'm also into 3d and that I was here to get another 16GB because, although I thought 16GB would be enough when I got my new PC, it turns out it wasn't.

So I kinda just spent a bunch of someone else's money for them, but I believe it will be well worth it for the kid.

The kid didn't really know much at all about computers from what I'd overheard and had been using an older PC with the old DDR3 memory so in order to upgrade they were there to get a motherboard, processor, and memory.

At the very least, it couldn't hurt for him to have the extra memory.

wouldn't a completely new computer have been the cheaper solution, if you add up the 3 new components plus the technitian's fees? They often sell older models at special rates when the new one comes out.

As for your own prob: have a look at the autostart settings. Many programmes run in the background all the time though you don't actually need them. That costs more CPU and memory than you might think and slows your computer down.
_________
Good things make themselves a bit scarce lately in my vicinity - I've had rather a Murphy-week. On the other hand, so far there was always a happy end. Even the yesterday's annoyance had its silverline: I had ordered a set of sewing machine feet and out of 5 they sent 3 wrong ones. On the plus side: they mistakenly sent the overlock-foot I had thought of purchasing occasionally :D Very handy indeed, particularly for very narrow seams

They were actually using their own older hard drive(s), power supply, case, etc, and were building the PC themselves. They were not actually hiring anyone else to put the components together for them. When I'd done the same, I actually priced it out to be certain, and sure enough, buying just the 3 components is MUCH cheaper than purchasing an already-assembled box. :)

As for my issue, I run only what is necessary for the programs I use. The thing is, I do tend to work with heavy-memory programs, to begin with, plus you add in the detailed files I'm using.

When I bought my new memory when I was getting my motherboard and processor, I knew that I almost never approached the 32GB of memory that I'd had. The thing is, I'd forgotten that I was generally running somewhere around 16-17GB...just above when I'd ended up purchasing.

True, as an animator, they may not have been using quite as much memory as me as animators tend to run a little lighter on polygons compared to my modeling for 3d printing (high, high poly models), but it certainly cannot hurt to have more memory from the beginning.

I searched for this and only found on Amazon.com:

“This item does not ship to the United Kingdom” :wah:

I have a friend that absolutely loved Cinnamon Apple Poptarts. They stopped selling them in the US. I found them (or some sort of Apple Poptarts) in the UK and was ordering them for a while. Then THOSE stopped being available. Grrr...

“This item does not ship to the United Kingdom” :wah:
It seems to be not available in Germany (yet) but I'll keep my eyes open. A local store offered pumpkin/chillie chocolate and some other pumpkin combination - green pepper, I believe. Would you be interested in those? I'm not really fond of hot spices in chocolate, so I can't say whether they are good or not.

Sorry. :(

I'm not really fond of hot spices in chocolate, so I can't say whether they are good or not.

As someone who likes both hot spices and chocolate, I do think they can work well together. It's certainly different than just plain chocolate, though, so I guess you would have to be specifically in the mood for it.

I once made chipotle brownies and took them into work. The reaction was... mixed!

Finally mowed my lawn. It's been bothering me. Even my next-door neighbor that has no mower and only mows his lawn every couple of months or so had done his a week or so ago.

I tried chilli chocolate, but wasn’t keen. I’d planned making it myself from a recipe online, but was given a sample of Green & Blacks by a colleague and I wasn’t keen. That may have been the brand though. Green and Blacks chocolate is a strangely plastic product.

Today’s good stuff, well, yesterday. Not only did I have lunch bought for me, but I also had no part in the preparation of the evening meal. It’s nice to be cooked for.

One moment of perfect beauty.

Finally found a pack of baseball/playing cards plastic holder pages! Been looking for them for awhile and haven't been able to find them. And I got an amiibo (Pink Yarn Yoshi) for $4.25 on clearance. :)

I've discovered a working outlet in my storage room in my basement. I've decided to move my incomplete workroom from my laundry room (with no outlets) to my storage room and vice-versa.

Getting more cleaning done in my basement. Quite a lot.
