Surely something good happened to you today

Rough week, but today was okay

He looks a little scary but he's actually happy.

Congratulations! =) Are you going to have a party tonight?

The second shipping of spare parts for my bicycle and sewing machine arrived today and this time they are the right parts (and all of them!). Also, the second phone for my landline arrived (second hand) and seems to work flawlessly. My old one always switches itself off when a call comes - presumably a battery problem - and if it doesn't I often miss the ringing. Now I can have one upstairs and the other downstairs and shan't miss a call (or so I hope....). Just in case, I'm trying the new batteries on the new phone first before I put them in the old one.
If this lucky streak continues, the sparepart for my broken oven should arrive tomorrow.

Murphy had his moment, though: I forgot my wallet at work. Fortunately, I always put any loose change I find in my pockets in a box, so that I have a little emergency stash.

When I was worried about a test at school or university I usually had the best results :) Maybe that's a sort of cosmic constant.

Fate has a tendency to only hit you over the head with her lead-filled sock when you feel particularly safe.

Bad things that you are well-prepared for never happen. Only things you are woefully unprepared for are possible.
I think that's an Addendum to Murphy's Law.

On the Good: The birthday presents my wife ordered for me have arrived. Still don't know what they are, tho.

On the Bad... I'm going to have to work, AND work overtime, on the day before said birthday. And without overtime pay (just comp time), possibly well into the evening. 9AM to.. 9PM? Maybe later? On a Saturday. Because it's University Homecoming.

On the Worse... said work will involve Beer, Football, and a Country Music concert. Three things I despise, especially all together.

Maybe you could listen to an audiobook during the game and concert? Or wear earplugs? And bring a thermos or bottle of your favourite beverage?
That you don't get payed for it as overtime sucks. Does it at least count as working hours so that you can take a few hours off occasionally, to make up for it?

Sadly, no, as I'm going to basically be a coordinating person (when somebody is looking for somebody, I tell person A where person B is, so I'll have to keep my ears open. The bottle is yes, but it won't last the 12 hours I am now looking at having to work.

Yeah, that's the "comp time" I spoke of. Much of which I was hoping to take on Monday, the 15th, but it turns out training for another essential part of my job has been scheduled for that day.

I need to find some good in my life right now:

I'm finally making headway in the rest of my basement after a "couple days break" that has now lasted a couple of months.

Just a couple of areas left, a couple of plastic shelving units to move, and some floor panels called Dry Core (One word? Two? Can't remember.) for comfort and water protection. I haven't decided if I'll install some cheap (really cheap) engineered flooring yet...it's upstairs and there's a nice circle of wood print missing from where my desk chair used to be). I have enough to cover most of my basement, but I'm not sure it's worth it. The only thing I'm thinking is that it might eliminate some of that "basement" feel to my basement. I've never felt comfortable in basements, even finished basements, but especially unfinished ones.

cheap engineered flooring is not a bad idea. And at Ikea (and at other shops, too, I'm sure) they have transparent sheets of thick plastic that you can put under the desk chair to protect the floor. With a nice (cheap) rug a laminated floor looks really friendly and perhaps you can hang up a few pretty pictures or use a photo-wallpaper on one wall? That'd reduce the basement feeling and you might feel more comfortable :)

Good thing today: the electrician called to tell me he got the spare part for my oven. He'll come tomorrow morning to install it. Keep your fingers crossed that it was really just that one bit that was broken. I have such a craving for baked butternut squash!

I am now back from the homecoming debacle.

It was even more full of suck than expected, because our team lost the game, and it was FUCKING COLD. And the cold affected my most recent injuries, so my shoulder (frozen) and jaw (TMJ) hurt like motherfuckers.

cool!!! It's always so great when lost things turn up unexpectedly =) Almost a bit like a birthday present.

Good thing today: I slipped while sampling a rather rapid mountain stream but managed to fall in the shallow so that I didn't get wet after all =) Only my knees and my ego are a little bruised :D
