Thoughts on this episode?
From memory I think this one might be generally maligned by Trek fans, but it does have some interesting qualities despite not being top of the heap in quality-

1. It directly ties to Course: Oblivion later in the series
2. We get to see Voyager landing on the planet, which might be the only time this happens (?) unless you count the crash landing in Timeless. I can recall seeing the Enterprise land at all during TOS. Do all the ships have "feet"?
3. Does the Prime Directive apply in this situation? (Janeway gives DNA to the indigenous species so they can replicate the crew...not technology, but something that could drastically affect the future, and did)
4. There were some good conversational moments between Seven and Chak; some of this could have been expounded on to improve how things between them unfolded later on... not really meaningful for the episode, but just something I thought of while watching.

Not a skippable episode for me, i enjoy this one. This is a great episode that shows that they do struggle for supples even if we don't see it every episode. And we do get some nice follow up later on

Not a skippable episode for me
I enjoyed it more on rewatch than I did the first time... def wouldn't skip it on third viewing either. Especially knowing what's to come in CO later on made me feel bad for the "fake" Harry Kim at the end when he queries Janeway about replicating the crew.

I found it somewhat ironic, and tragic, that DupliKim was the first, and in "COURSE: OBLIVION" was the last one. I foubd tgat very sad.

(Tom could be argued that he was copied at the exact same tine, but this episode definitely focuses on Kim more, I am calling him the first.)

They also land in Basics, no?

Landing is sort of their shtick. They first do it in "The 37s", then in "Basics", but then there's a long gap in onscreen landings until "Demon", "Dragon's Teeth" and finally "Nightingale". Nothing to say the ship didn't land a couple of dozen times in between, too, though - it's not supposed to be that special.

Kirk's ships never did land (in one piece). Whether they could is another issue, as all the shows have demonstrated how effortlessly a starship can fly through air (or water) or hover above ground (or underground). Or fly through mountains, for that matter. But VOY could afford to show a lot of stuff that in TNG was still too expensive to be filmed, and the landings were part of that. The one in "Demon" looks really pretty...

Woop, I forgot about the previous landings of the ship... guess they didn't make too much of an impact on me, lol.

Good point.
Course Oblivion is pretty sad... I do recall chuckling at the makeup on Harry and Seven towards the end of that one, but the dupli-crew's demise was a depressing one for sure.
