No offence to Ed... But but he's not attractive enough to go from being a suspected junkie locked in a dog cage, to kissing the owner of that dog cage, and frankly neither is Nick Stahl.

    Women are weird.

Then rewrite the scene.... or give him a longer arc to flip her affections. If he fits the junkie in a dog cage bit better, then play it out longer.

The interactions between Arnie and John would have been improved. Continuity with the events of the second movie would have been improved. The sense that we are following the same guy's journey would have been improved. Some smartass comedy would have fit in pretty well. Ed can play crazy pretty well, and the state of John at the beginning of T3 very well could have been paranoia brought on by the fact that everything was peaceful yet he knows exactly what he's already experienced.

The change in actors/characters was always extremely jarring for me.

I think Kate let him out of cage because Terminatrix was attacking her vet surgery... The smooching came much later.

John was homeless and unshowered for weeks, even if he wasn't a junkie.

It takes a special kind of beautiful to be a hot transient, which neither of these boys had the 90210 looks to pull off.

I don't know. The owner wasn't that great either. Well matched I'd say...

    Marsden is very sad.
I think Skynet should send a Terminator back to the 18th century to kill the first Connor to move to North America but since there will be no electricity yet he will be steam powered and needs to eat some coal.

    Atomic batteries.

    125 years of power.

    Deleted scene in T2.

    Edit...

I'm watching Insatiable and just heard Debbie Ryan convince herself to bang a tramp by saying "he's kinda hot in a I'll do you on your cardboard box sort of way."

The TV show ended in a timeline without John Conner as the future leader of the resistance, because Teen John went to the future, skipping over his life's accomplishments, and Time was acting as if he had never gone back, because he hadn't yet.

    Cough!

If we're comparing actors to actresses (and it's all subjective) Claire is about the same league as Ed and Nick.

She gets extra points for making DiCaprio top himself.

    (Unfortunately it didn't stick.)

Kate Winslet was already perfect, until she lied about the sùrface area on a floating door, and she turned herself up to an 11.

The T-8000 in Terminator 5 implied it was a meta-sapient Skynet made up of it's mind from every timeline, seeing them all and trying to muddle all of them.

And this entire franchise exists because of a timeloop that somehow starts in the future in the first place, it was never a linear or smooth timeline from about halfway through T1.

John Connor always sent Reese back to become his father, that was kind of the point. I can't remember the term used for this, but from the start this has always been one of those situations where the time travel is what caused the future.
If Reese wasn't John's father and didn't tell Sarah everything, then she never would have taught John what he needed to know to survive, and he either a) wouldn't have existed at all, or b) wouldn't have been trained by Sarah to become the leader of the Resistance and possibly wouldn't have survived, or wouldn't have become the leader of the Resistance.

Correct. But from what we've seen so far I have my doubts John Connor is even in this film.

Much of the film seems to have been built as an excuse to bring Linda Hamilton and Arnold back. If that sort of sentimentalism is what's driving the proceedings, then why not Ed Furlong? Why shift the focus to new characters? I know Ed's in crappy shape, but no worse than Hamilton was and Arnold just had heart surgery.

Sarah Connor wasn't supposed to still be out there protecting the world by this point. She protected John Connor who then would have protected the world as an adults. So I get the sense that John Connor's role as savior of mankind is going to be completely subverted, almost soft-rebootish or Last Jedi-ish (kill the past).

I'm just sensing some serious retconning just as bad if not worse than T3+ on the way.

Um, Edward Furlong's in significantly worse shape than Hamilton and Arnold. He's been battling heroin and cocaine addictions for over twenty years. When he hasn't been in and out of rehab, he's been in and out of jail for domestic violence.

Best to enjoy T2 Ultimate Edition and accept that was the real version and it had a happily ever after ending.

Sorry, I fundamentally disagree with paradoxes and time loops. BEST CASE John Connor didn't even exist in the original timeline, and someone else (or Reese himself) time traveled for the first time to start the loop, and corrupted history by sleeping with Sarah after getting stranded back there.... no Terminators, just Reese stuck in the past, the world thinking of him as a crazy tin foil survivalist, eventually fathering John and living out their days in the past, until he is proven right. Alterred timeline / original John Connor the temporal anachronism that shoudln't exist might have had an epiphany when Judgement Day happened, that his dad was right, and got into his dad's survival gear to end up just far enough ahead of the curve to become a threat to Skynet.
