Anyone else hoping this is BS drama to gauge audience interest in the movie, and it'll be revealed soon that the Chis' have signed on?
Or am I literally so broken about Star Trek 4 being D.O.A. (A-FUCKING-GAIN) that I've become delusional?
Judging by Karl Urban's joke with Data over twitter,
He either doesn't care about Pine not being in the movie, or he knows that the news are making it seems worse than it is and his friend will be there. Or he just hopes that with Kirk out of the way, Mccoy will be the star

(...dream on! Captain Spock is the only plausible choice )
Star Trek doesn’t need ST4
There is already STD (for better or worse)
There is the Picard series
There are probably more announcements for more projects coming soon
Star Trek doesn’t need for there to be ST4 to remain relevant. It already is (again)
Seriously? Just because there is a new Star Trek series on an fairly obscure streaming service that hardly anyone knows about and even fewer people watch, does not make Discovery “relevant” in 2018
What VOODOOXI said.
I'd argue that the movies are more popular, and thus make trek more relevant, than new series only available through streaming services, DVD or pirate copies. Not all the people are willing to watch series like that.
And really, we wouldn't have Discovery if it wasn't for the movies renewing interest for trek. You can't tell me the new series isn't more inspired by JJ's work than tos, even tptb admitted it (and they hired Kurtzman because of his work in the reboot).
Having trek on the big screen is more important, in this age where you have other franchises like marvel, star wars etc etc, than having it on tv ONLY.
I don't want to minimize Discovery because it's a good series if people give it a chance, but the fact they paint themselves into a corner by making the main character Spock's sister, and all that forced stuff about Spock and Sarek, is telling. It's like they dont think their series can exist and be successful on its own so they desperately ask the old characters for help.
First they said Spock wouldn't reappear and they wouldn't cast a new Spock, now they did and it seems like the second season will be about him . Wanna bet that their Spock will be more like a younger version of Quinto-Spock than Nimoy's? Just read what Kurtzman said.
