USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

You can say whatever the heck you want.

My stance is the Enterprise in DSC is a retcon of the one in 'The Cage'.

My point in the last couple pages was just within the realm of TOS-R Pre-DSC. Pike's Enterprise looked different from Kirk's.

Well, we agree on that part. For my part I'm not a fan of extreme makeovers, simply because of realism. TOS-to-TMP was already hard to swallow, logistics-wise, but DSC-to-TOS isn't better; nor is DSC-to-TMP, mind you, though I'd like to see someone do a refit version of the Discoprise.

The only problem I have between TOS and TMP is the word 'Refit'

Had they just said complete rebuild, it would be fine.

This is the Enterprise as she was always meant to be and they could never afford.

Nice, shiney and new. None of that 60's arc deco nonsense anymore.
Not to be pedantic but there are very few art-deco design elements in TOS. I would say possibly jet-age and googie design elements, yes. I love both art-deco and googie, but I don't see any of the former in TOS.

Sorry, silly 1960's colourfest.

Wasn't that the idea at an earlier point in pre-production?

Of course, that would've meant that the Enterprise in TMP was a different ship than the one we got in TOS, which would've been unfortunate, nostalgia-wise. NCC-1911, anyone?

Sorry, silly 1960's colourfest.

The Cage's colours were much more subdued. I guess it wasn't "sexy" enough.

I do wonder what people would've thought if the Discoprise had been the design used in 2009, or even in 1979.

@Belz... ....Yes, that's true about the carrier, but it might be like comparing an orange and a tangerine. Who knows what the whole shipbuilding thing in the future will be like, compared to now?

@Tuskin38 ...."Refit" may involve various degrees. A term that may stretch, to an extent, to encompass various levels.

@Kemaiku ....Great new avatar. I have to say, that really pops. :techman:

Depends on how well the explanation sticks, as usual.

Support that accusation or retract it. If I say "I like bacon", is that asserting my personal tastes as fact? Just because I insist on my opinions does not make them statements of fact, and I'd be surprised if you didn't value your own opinions highly, as well.

What theories? My position is one of ABSENCE of theories. This reminds me of creationists calling science a religion. What I'm arguing is to avoid speculating beyond what can be supported. Avoiding speculation is not, itself, speculation.
My Opinion, is exactly that... MY OPINION.
I don't expect anybody else to completely accept it as their personal opinion, nor have I ever expressed it in such a way that would indicate that.

Obviously, you believe that no explanation is necessary for any of the the changes AND also obviously, you want everybody else to believe that as well, because if they don't they must be deluding themselves.

I find that particular line of reasoning to be rather rude, and that's how you more often than not, come across in your posts.
I certainly don't' expect you to constantly agree with others around here, I just wish you would be a whole lot Less condescending when you do it.

Exactly what I think. Thanks for taking that into consideration in the future.

It's not obvious if you just made it up. I made no mention of delusion nor was that implied in my posts. Why you're trying to attack my character here is beyond me.

Well yeah. If you make my own arguments for me, you can make them as rude as you want. I can play that game too, but what would that accomplish?

Well, the CVN-65 Enterprise spent 36 months in overhaul starting in 1979. When it came back out, it didn't look significantly different.

That's 1979, in gravity and atmosphere. Impossible to guess what the 2350's would consider a lengthy time for a refit. I think we're supposed to think 18 months is a long time.

Well, it's pretty obvious at this point, absolutely nothing sinks in past that EGO of yours.
So I'll just say one more thing...

Have a lovely afternoon...
... and leave it at that.

For more traditionalists out there David Metlesits has done another Kirk-ified DSC Enterprise and it looks gorgeous! Hopefully he'll continue to produce more shots of her.
