One need only look at Star Wars fandom to know that this is the case. rarely do fandoms embrace changes because they are largely uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and challenge long held preconceptions of what Star Trek might be. Hence extreme turns of phrase like "Raped my childhood" to describe anything different, even though, arguably, the most popular of Trek's now could be railed against much the same way (TWOK, DS9).I have a feeling that instead of making reboot haters see things from a new, reasonable, perspective, thank to the comparison with Discovery too, and thus be more accepting of the kelvin timeline as its own thing, they may now demand this trek to be stuck in the past all the more. Irony is that this trek, that is another reality, is less allowed to change things than a show set in the tos reality that is pretty much messing up with established canon.
Star Trek is not allowed to change. Change is dangerous, challenging and there is no reason to change what works. That is the idea behind it. It cannot be rationalized with as it is a very emotionally driven attitude.
