TNG Returns!

In comparison to Discovery, that isn't much of a bar to clear.
Now it's not really for me to say, because I didn't see the whole season, only the half pilot, which left me uninterested. However, I've kept abreast of some of the chatter, enough to know I wouldn't like it.

I also know enough to say that the season 2 teaser very much looks like a retooling of the whole thing, to reflect some older Trek styles, & maybe even a nod or two at MacFarlane's Orville.

This tells me they're already scurrying to make people happier, & this move with Stewart almost certainly lines up with that. So while I doubt we'll see him as Picard in anything that resembles the way Discovery came off in its freshman outing, I do expect that what they have planned to do with Discovery, in its upcoming directions, will very much line up with his series.

That's the kind of brand synergy I expect, & when I say I hope it will be good, my bar is my own. There's lots now I don't think is good, including some Sir Patrick himself worked on

and frankly, as tentative as I am in general, & as displeased about having to subscribe to a new servise to boot... even with Stewart on board (as much of a fan as I am) I probably will still wait until the whole 1st season of it is all available, before I sign up for the free trial.

That way, I can spend a month sifting through his show, as well as running through one or both seasons of Discovery too. From there, I'll decide if all thus hullabaloo is worth the hassle

This announcement was totally out of left field, at least to me. I am excited! However also cautiously optimistic.

All good things...get resurrected by Hollywood and sometimes better off dead!

I am thinking positive thoughts, but with a certain 8th entry in another franchise I am now even more guarded when it comes to Hollywood continuing stories that finished.

CBS is doing their job well with this one- I, too didn’t pop for the all access for Dsc- figured I’d wait for Netflix in a few years. But, I’d buy it for the Picard show in a heartbeat.
Guessing he will be an Ambassador or civilian. Picard as Starfleet man has been done and likely wouldn’t have interested Stewart.
I’d guess that there may be one or two TNG characters guesting on an ep here or there, but probably no more than that.

That could explain the "10 years since Picard has been seen" rumor. He could easily lose track of time somewhere searching dead civilizations.

Hell, maybe he finds the Iconian tech that's resposible for the 7 red bursts on DSC. BAM! There's your crossover.
We've already had enough of lost heroes with Luke Skywalker and Dale Cooper gone missing in TFA and Twin Peaks S3. I hope they don't rehash that theme for the new Picard series.

If I become emperor of Trek, this series will see a Jem'Hadar incursion against DS9, and Ambassador Picard, Captain Worf, and Captain Kira will go through the wormhole to seek out the Dominion for an explanation, picking up Sisko and Odo on the way

Actually, I kind of like the idea of this show blending select veterans from across Berman Trek. There wasn't enough interaction between TNG and the other shows, especially after TNG switched to movies.

I’m really interested to hear what the heck this show is going to be about. I’d have thought a TNG reunion show would have been more attractive to a larger casual audience, but this doesn’t sound like that. I could potentially see a backlash if audiences tune in expecting Captain Picard exploring space on a starship and he’s now just an ambassador or an archaeologist.

And this could be seeing the beginning of an AMERICAN HORROR STORY version of seasons with this new show... each year, the focus on a different high profile character/species/planet/ship/insert all options here.

That's what it should have been in the first place. That way they wouldn't have to twist themselves in a pretzel to try to retool and remarket Discovery the way they're doing. It would have just been a one season experiment. Don't like it? Wait for the next experiment.

What I'm wondering what events happened twenty years after Star trek Nemesis and what happened with Picard and other TNG era crew members and characters from Voyager and Ds9 in the 24th century.

Series concept: An aging, semi-retired Picard, and a Data who was resurrected out of what he transferred to B4 but who never returned to Starfleet, in a 12 part (2 hours each) performance art piece inspired by the events of "Masks". The 13th episode is done mockumentary style and details the destruction of the Federation at the hands of the Vogon Bureaucracy, due to this unwarranted provocation.

Only one thing in all this is certain. As per its routine nature, our fan base is wholly & completely going to get way ahead of itself here... & there is no better recipe for disappointment than that imho

Just because they signed the 3rd biggest name in the franchise doesn't mean we're guaranteed to get the best outcome, least of all one that fits our expectations

Hold yer horses man

Somehow I think the writers of the upcoming show might wish that the TNG movies were never made. Or is it just me?
'All Good Things...' was such an awesome final chapter and the the four movies ruined that...

Also Flynn/Tron2, Deckard/BR2 (and of course there was Spock in Unification)

We are so getting 7of9 this time

I think there's different levels of "gone missing". Picard off doing his own thing could qualify just as much as Luke going into self-exile for 30 years.

Jon Luc had a long and storied career. He certainly earned some privacy if it went that way. The chance to fulfill his passion.
