Oh I didn't mean he'd be captaining the F, but I can't imagine they'd be able to resist having it in the background.

"Stewart says he may not be the captain anymore. He may be a very different individual. Setting is 20 years past Nemesis. There are no scripts yet. It will be something very, very different. It will be made with love for the material and the fans."

As an aside, I loved Last Jedi but a lot of people didn't and they should take it as a huge warning sign if they're planning on making Picard different to the Picard we know and love.

"Love for the material" for one fan is rape of Gene's legacy for two others:lol:

Kirsten motherfucking Beyer is a member of the creative team according to The Hollywood Reporter, and the whole show was her idea.

Also Kirsten Beyer is also going to be writing for it.

    Edit:

I missed the fact that it was her idea!

This is really exciting news. It was TNG that brought me into Star Trek so to see Patrick Stewart return is just fantastic. Cannot wait.

Should this be split into it's own thread now? Or maybe the thread renamed?

Well yes, but the title of this thread really isn't accurate anymore lol

Then again I guess it is theoretically 'Possible' until it's actually produced.

Commenter Ben Grimm over at BirthMoviesDeath has an interesting theory about what this show could be:

"My guess: Ambassador Picard dealing with the fallout of the explosion of Romulus. Single story, non-episodic, leads to the Romulans joining the Federation (or at least becoming allies) and a hopeful, peaceful future."

So, as soon as I read this news these are the images/thoughts that flashed through my head:

    - NOT in Starfleet anymore.

    - Could be pottering about in a cave somewhere leading an archaeological expedition.

    - Some *insert plot device* draws him back (perhaps reluctantly) into helping Starfleet or re-activating his commission.

    - Picard kicks around for a bit with the fresh new crew on the Enterprise F.

    - Q whisks Picard away on an entertaining and mind-bending trip thru the cosmos that ties back to *insert plot device*.

    - Some appearances from some of the former Enterprise-D crew.

    - The Borg might make a major play for the AQ.

    - Limited-run series that sets the scene for a new, longer-run series set in the post-Nemesis timeframe.

    OR

    - None of the above.

I'm actually very excited about this.
If we're getting Jean-Luc back, we need John DeLancie back to torment him, too.

Given how much liberties they've taken with the 23rd century aesthetic in DISCOVERY, I'm curious to see how the universe looks on the eve of the 25th century. Will they bring back the Okudas? I kinda hope they go for something new, instead of retreading the look of past TNG era (2364-2379). Go different, much like how THE MOTION PICTURE departed from TOS asthetics.

Yeah I went and looked for a new forum then realized the show doesn't even have a name yet.
    Can't wait though! Awesome news!

That's the aspect that holds the greatest interest for me - if it's about an older Picard, it CAN'T be a prequel. Finally!

Not sure that John de Lancie should return as Q, though - how/why would he possibly look so much older than when last seen?

Maybe Captain Bateson from "Cause and Effect" could be brought in, once Kelsey Grammer decides Frasier would be better left unrevived.

Q changed his appearance various times throughout the show, especially in early episodes where it was one of his initial gimmicks during the first season.

What, are you suggesting a different actor entirely? Or just de Lancie's voice? Who else's voice could do the role justice?
