USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I kind of like it but... now that I've seen pictures of this detailed and accurate model I have to say... there's just something about its proportions and details that rob it from what the original and refit had in terms of elegance and iconic status. Maybe it's just the shortness of the neck, or the relative unoriginality... or maybe the parts don't fit together in a way that tells a coherent story. I don't know. It's an adequate update and yet... there's just something bland about it.
Totally agree.

I always thought the Oberth shared stylistic lines with the Excelsior. Makes sense since they were designed for the same film.

The defiant was supposed to be a beefed up runabout.
now with the benefit of recon it could have Magee class in its design lineage. The Sisko designed Defiant and he has a thing for old ships, judging from the Daedalus class model he keeps around.

It it far outside of the realm it's in a different reality.

I'm going to try this one more time:

I am saying that the ones who produce Trek in an official capacity could, if they chose, make an Enterprise-A down the line in the Discovery series that is a much more radical departure in design from the TOS-derived version that they have right now which more than a few people feel does not fit in with the overall Discovery series aesthetic.

The Koerner design is just an example of more detail and a darker look. I am not saying that particular design is a literal match for the Discovery series aesthetic.

That would be a nice little addition to the defiant’s history as the Shran has some of the same design elements as the defiant. I’ve not got the eaglemoss model - do we know whether or not the Shran is a tough little ship?

I agree on Oberon and excelsior.
The beefed up runabout was dropped in the design stages, as was what became the nova class based off the TM illus.

That's why we have the Vengeance.

Indeed. That was going to be my next point.

@Tuskin38 :

We don't know how much darker in tone that they're going to go with Trek. I am not making any personal value judgment on whether the change from Gene's vision is good or bad, I'm just saying that TPTB will do what they choose, because it's theirs and they can.

Wait, Sisko designed the Defiant?
He was part of the design team at Mars.

Indeed. That was going to be my next point.

They've said Season 2 will be lighter since the war is over. It will be more optimistic.
