USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I've given the DSC Enterprise some praise and it's certainly a pretty ship by DSC standards, but you know who did the best job of updating the ship for a modern television audience?

The CGI artists on Enterprise, that's who.
Drexler's work on the Enterprise on STC is phenominal. I was re-watching the final episode again. The final battle scenes were extremely well done, though by then they'd tossed the whole 60's filming look and were transitioning wholeheartedly into the movie era.

The franchise is in it's prime, yes, why are you askouting (asking+shouting)?
I am not sure it's in it's prime. I think TNG/DS9 was prime, everything else was over the hill.
This is why STD not being in Prime actually is good for Star Trek. By not being in Prime, Star Trek can have it's prime again. :guffaw:

Not every day.

My god that's cheesy.

Don't know how replacing the Jefferies ship with Every Kid's First CG Model is " updating and modernizing" it.

Though it is funny how the fans are doing a far more credible job of updating the ship than the paid CGI artists on Discovery.

You realise that this is a rough model made by a fan, right? The proportions and textures are all wrong.

I would not want someone who did this to do my roof, siding, floor tile, or anything like that:

You realise that this is a rough model in a video game, right? Lots of things are wrong on it.

Look, we get it. You guys dislike this design. You said that already. But it's pretty desperate to try and diss it based on inferior copies. No need to tell us with every post.

One, we see the transporters kill someone. Two, they are so limited that they can't beam anyone out of dangerous situations (i.e. Spock in the thruster suit. Nope, send the flag officer out. V'Ger's about to explode? Better run! etc).
That’s true about the gruesome death. I suppose that was to emphasise Kirk’s rushing the ship out of dock when she clearly wasn’t ready. Although we’ve seen the transporter do crazy things before - splitting Kirk in two for instance... and sending the landing party to another dimension - that gizmo has been dangerous since day one.

As for Kirk going out after Spock I agree that was just *daft*. In the time it took Kirk to go down to the airlock and change into a spacesuit he could have just beamed Spock back on board.

And yeh it would perhaps have been prudent to signal for a beam out while V’Ger was *ahem* evolving. But DRAMA!

Unless there was some [TECH] reason why they couldn’t use the transporter inside V’Ger? I’ll have to watch the thing again now - but that’s ok since it’s one of the best ones...

I thought Kirk maybe just wanted to go in after him or something. He had the opportunity to beam him back but decided not to. Maybe he thought he was on to something. Let Spock be Spock, say.

Heck, that’s right. He almost gives the order but it’s debatable (“bring him back here... no wait - get a fix on his position”). You’re probably right though - he was trying to let Spock do his thang.

But - there still wasn’t any need for Kirk to physically go after him - I mean it’s not quite as bad as Picard in Nemesis, but what was Kirk going to do to V’Ger personally? Judo chop it? Or romance it?

Someone should have quoted regulations to him about him going outside - Saavik couldn’t get there fast enough... hehe

Any of the two would've worked, or talking the computer to death.

Speaking of judo chops, am I the only one bummed out that Pine as Kirk never used those in the reboots?

I tested google image search with a pic of the Kelvin 1701-A and this is what it returned:

I came across this site, with some renderings of the Discoprise. With that coloring / lighting the design looks considerably better, in my opinion. Dish is too dark, though:

Almost! If they just dropped the extra Pylon to the Nacelles, and had one swept piece, raise the neck some, and get rid of the band on the nacelle, I could get on board. But keep the photon torpedoes on the underside of the saucer, and make the neck area with photon torpedoes only on the refit like TMP. I mean, other then the coloring on STD, and those minor changes, it's not a bad update. But it needs modification. I can't stand the color tho. The Aztec stuff, against the dark grey circles so prominent.. It's not the best redesign.. Or as some fanboys would say "modern update". LoL to each their own tho, love it or hate it, or wish there were just some tweaks..it's what we have now coming in Season 2..unfortunately I cancelled my subscription, and well. To be honest, I'm content on looking at this stuff from reviews on YouTube now. I'm not really into the series. But I am fascinated by their takes on ships and tech. But for real, it's not the OG prime universe. They should provide an explanation..in universe to explain it. Maybe tie it to the red matter from the Kelvin timeline and Vulcan's destruction fractured the Original time line by altering its level of technology elevating it back to the NX era..or heck make the tech advancements a side effect of the temporal cold war, and thus the classic era differences are explained. Thats what happened to the daleks. They were less advanced until Genesis of the daleks, and they became much more advanced and powerful. Its a standard acceptable science fiction trope. I would even accept it, and I kinda loathe STD. Unless series 2 is good. But I don't trust these websites that only support the series. I'm highly suspicious of only glowing reviews and those blogs and sites that mock and provoke fans not fond of STD, do the series a disservice by turning off fans, rather then trying to get them more on board, which equals more revenue, as most successful TV series do.

If that is supposed to be the interior of the Enterprise then they got that wrong as well. Looks like something from the Thunderbirds live action movie.

They were never going to remotely match TOS, stop having those silly expectations.

Anyways it’s just a redress of the discovery/shenzhou corridors.
