My wife changed her laptop login password last night. She does this each month for security reason. However, the new set password is no longer accepted by the laptop after reboot this morning. it is HP ENVY X360. Anyone know what happens?

A Microsoft update wiped out registry changes perhaps? There have been a lot of updates recently. Does the previous password work?

Thanks. None of them work. We contacted Microsoft team and they said it has nothing to do with update.

Did your wife update Windows 10 before ? The easiest way is to crack it with a password disk or login into your Microsoft account .

It's also possible the new password was miskeyed. Even when you're asked to confirm it, can still make the same mistake twice. Been there done that and it's often related to the capitlisation or the use of special characters and not hitting shift.

I'm sorry, but how would know, whether it's a typo or not, unless you've unlocked the computer? Did you try all possible typos (unlikely)? Or do you all simply never make those, like ever?

She said it was correct. Fortunately, got this fixed with a Windows password recovery tool, suggested by this post: https://www.passmoz.com/best-windows-password-recovery-tool.html

I think what you both just learned is that changing the password every 30 days is pointless unless you can also set the BIOS to lock out booting from a CD or a USB drive and set a password on the BIOS. ;)

Since this thread had been abandoned for a year I thought I could at least have some fun with it and to be honest, it is a valid solution, you will solve the problem that way.:shifty::whistle:;)
