Discovery Size Argument™ thread

I didn't write it.

Also, I have to ask "Is it worth it?" Will people like Discovery more if this is solved? I mean, Kelvin Star Trek still gets derided for destroying TOS and the Prime Universe because of time travel shenanigans. Hatred for Discovery will continue until the next property to be hated.

I don't think "is it worth it" is a valid question :) If it could be done, it would have been done already, whether it was worth it or not.
And I don't know if anyone truly hates Discovery, not in the same way that morons hate TLJ (they once that are collecting money to "fix" it)
Hating anything is definitely "not worth it". Trying to make all the different timelines/universes fit, is kinda fun, even if ultimately futile.

Imho, it would be cool if Eaglemoss put both Enterprise-configs (2257 and 2266 refits) on the poster and just add a note about the size discrepancy.

Well, I figure all of that stuff happens in the Enterprise Universe, which is completely different from Prime. Does it make it easier to explain?
And I am not touching VOY with a 10 foot pole :)
But but... "Regeneration" directly ties into FC, and Generations to the classic movies so there's crossover and it's like... which branches connect to what? It's a total clusterfuck. The ENT producers said it was an altered timeline in one interview, then made direct TOS prequels which contradict that. The guys behind the first two Kelvin movies say the timeline split in 2233, the guy behind the third says the dawn of time.

Here's what I ended up with:

Ya know, if you take away the Discovery's Outer Primary Spinning-Ring and the Nacelles,
it's just about the same size as the classic Enterprise.

Here, I'll throw some fuel onto the fire

By Doug Drexler's scale, I mean his MSD, which IIRC is scaled to the TOS set height.

Noice!

Count me firm in the camp that says the TOS Enterprise was always heavily underscaled with it's (unofficial) length - Doug Drexler's scale really is the minimal possible scale, probably even a bit larger.

So for me, I not just hope that the Discoprise is scaled up accordingly to fit better with the size of the Discovery - NO, I want the Discoprise length (~450m) to slowly become accepted as the official length the original Enterprise always had!

Everything else always made no sense, and the ridiculous 289m were simply only ever repeated as often because changing the scale on all (non-canon) works would be a pain in the ass - but NOW is the chance to correct that original mistake, and get much more real!

Hell, the original show itself only really works with the bigger scale. They just never changed it in the supplementary mterial out of laziness and the discussion it would create.

Now, they HAVE to! And boy, do I hope they do!

I'm fine with the changes they have made, it's somewhat necessary considering times have changed.

It's like playing skyrim and then saying "oh this isnt cannon" cos solstheim is slightly different size and shspe to what it was in Morrowind.

I think discovery has been a lot more respectful than JJverse

The only possible objection I might have is that they used the midget "TOS size" as the basis of the refit, which has rather explicit and unfortunate scale-establishing features...
