Barclay at least had a romantic fantasy about Troi, since his program had her fawning over him. Not just praising him but drooling over him like he was a chocolate sundae.
This level of political commentary is completely unwelcome in the show forums. Any further examples will result in Trolling warnings."Infinite diversity in infinite combinations" - Vulcan philosophy
Unfortunately, what you perceive as "unfathomable" has become 'standard operating procedure' in Drumpfmerica, where this sort of bile currently has a (toxic, orange) mouthpiece -- Cry more!! Go scream at the sky, libtard!! Make me a sandwich, bitch!! I'm NOT racist because racism doesn't EXIST!! SJWs are ruining EVERYTHING!! -- all mindsets/battle hymns of the 'alt-right' and those like them. A dwindling subset of warped, broken white males that long for the "good ol days"....you know, when brown people were considered property and women stayed in the kitchen. Times are-a-changin' FAST, and these socially stunted relics of the past are doomed to be left there. We're listening to their collective death rattle.
On topic: I think the *REAL* question here is, would I like to go on a date & have sex with troi. Yes. Yes I would.
Well, it's probably fair to say he had romantic interest. He did eventually make a pass at her, when he had proper confidence, but the fawning over him thing itself could ultimately be just an ego stroke, similar to how he had snotty Wesley describing him in all his greatness. They're all programed to behave like he's a magnificent stud lolBarclay at least had a romantic fantasy about Troi, since his program had her fawning over him. Agreed ! I would even go further and say that it's pretty much the same thing IRL. There are all kinds of couples out there, no matter what the partners look like or what age they are. We should stop judging others and their relationships. Especially on such biaised premices as their outer looks or their illness. Troi is not "better" than Reg just because she hasn't anxiety. Some people here wondered, how a man like Barclay could get a "so much better woman" like Troi. Or even thought, Keiko was to good for O'Brien. I don't think so. On Star Trek, many strange kinds of relationships could happen.
I don't agree with people who dismiss the idea of a counselor being necessary aboard a starship. They have never dealt with traumata. And mental stability is essential to remain fit for service.

Some people seem to belittle Troi's job. She is a good friend for Reg and helped him dealing with his issues despite his holodeck adventures. She encouraged him to go out meeting people in real life. People may refuse to see a counselor but could be ordered to talk to one, especially in the Command Track. Reg is still an expert for holograms. But I don't think that he used the Troi hologram ever again - out of respect for his friendship with Deanna. I can't speak for other holograms, though. And even Janeway recreated a hologram to suit her wishes.
I agree. I think the main reason that people found the idea of a counselor not being needed was in part because TNG humans are suppose to be perfect and thus they don't need any kind of mental health help. I also think he proably stopped using a Troi Hologram or and TNG character hologram after he became part of the family so to speak. I doubt he stopped having holo-sex though. That or the Enterprise had some of those famous Roddenberry love instructors and we simply never saw them.

McCoy was not the best Counselor. In TOS they helped each other with friendship. Psychiatrists were only for criminals with odd behavior.
Sorry, man, no way around this. Flaming warning earned and given.Well, fuck this tap-dancing around the issue: 2takesfrakes is a cunt who has the good fortune to suffer only from socially acceptable psychological disorders like narcissism and alpha-male psychopathy.

The problem with Troi is that, not only was she always like Lt. Cmdr. Obvious ("I sense hostility, Captain!"), but she's a bridge officer.
I'm not disputing the necessity of caring for the crew's mental health, but does this character have to be on the bridge?
Marina was always very interested in keeping her job, she did what she was told and didn't cause problems, whilst all around her, the other female costars are dropping like flies, namely Crosby and McFadden. And it wasn't fair to let her sweat it out like that, she was a team player and wanted to contribute to the success of the product. The least TNG could've done was put her on the bridge, to keep her visible as a cast member.
