I know we've had this conversation about a dozen times before, but this forum is not just for people praising the show, so stop minimodding and trying to force it to be.

And before you say Bill is a special case because of the frequency of his complaints, I've seen you do the same thing with other people too, including ones who were fans of the show who were just making an observation or criticism.

If the show is as good as you contend, it probably doesn't need such an overly defensive cheerleading squad. Just enjoy the show on your terms and let others discuss it how they like. The show isn't even on right now, so can we at least save the "why are you even here if you hate it so much?" stuff until it comes back?

I'm sorry Locutus, I think this is a well-moderated and professional board to say the least, but this response appears to be more than a bit over-the-top ("about a dozen times?" / "overly defensive cheerleading squad?").

It's not mini-modding nor is it intended to be personal. It was, however, intended to shine some self awareness on the individual situation. I'm just questioning the value of it. It's antagonizing. There are other posters who criticize the show frequently, but it's constructive and talks about specifics (the characters, the story elements, etc). That's not the case here. It's just "well it sucks so I guess it blows and the writers suck too. Too bad it's written by idiots because it's garbage. They'll have to do better if they expect my approval" over and over again.

I don't think it's unreasonable to call that out as being irritating bullshit. It's not meant to be funny, and it's not meant to drum up any kind of true discussion, so how is it a surprise that it's irritating? And I don't see how you can whack me without questioning what the value of those posts are as well. It just seems odd.

I'm sorry if Bill took personal offense or had hurt feelings, but I don't think it's unreasonable for one poster to challenge irritating behavior of another that doesn't appear constructive. If I could understand the intent, maybe it would help me do better. But I don't think we're gong to get that. Because the intent is not constructive.

So do whatever you think is fair (honestly). If it's fair to ring me up for this heated exchange while others are posting things about SJW's and whatever other crazy foolishness, then let it rip. But please don't expect me to back away from defending my position, particularly when I think I'm justified being a little irritated and tired of it.

It's not over the top, as I and other mods have literally spoken to you numerous times about not trying to shut down discussion you consider critical of DSC. As irritating as you find the perpetual critics, others find the excessive defensiveness in response to almost any criticism equally tedious. There's a middle ground between the two extremes.

And of course it's mini-modding, by its very definition. First you were trying to discourage the discussion about this being a reboot or not, and then you were trying to shut down criticism.

You implied that Bill has nothing better to do with his life. Of course that's personal. It's pretty mild in the grand scheme of things, but it's still personal.

BTW, he didn't report your responses to him, someone else did, so it's not about his "hurt feelings". Bill seems to roll with the punches pretty well.

Unless I've missed something, I don't think he's thrown personal insults at the DSC staff, instead criticizing the quality of their work.

I'm pretty sure I also said something to the anti-SJW guy and have given him several infractions before when he said actual terrible things instead of just stupid comments, but nice attempt at deflectling and telling me how to do my job.

Anyway, you're not going to get in trouble (nor did I suggest you would), but enough with the argument. If you want to PM me, fine, but it ends in the thread.

Not that we need a retcon, but if one is so inclined, ever since ENT I've pictured the "retro" look of TOS to be the result of the final integration of all the major Federation member worlds various design styles into one. Clearly still an Earth-centric design in the broadstrokes, but incorporating Vulcan minimalism, Andorian let's say bright color schemes, Tellarite unease with touchscreens and electronic-only data storage (preferring printouts, maybe they had an EMP incident in their recent past), Denobulan whimsical furniture, etc. into one big fusion of styles.

That's quite a clever theory, Locutus! I'm not sure I accept it but I like it never the less!

Well, the Federation and the Klingons don't get cloaking technology until The Enterprise Incident so my comment stands. That is TOS season 3.

Your comment stands only in alternative reality in which there is no Enterprise series. In our reality this series exists and DSC must be compatible with continuity in which cloaking tech is nothing special in 2150s. So any cloaking device mentions as something special in TOS are already retconned. There is simple truth that many elements of TOS are not compatible with later series. If certain fans can't live with this then blame all time travel staff for changes in prime timeline.

If there are elements of TOS that are not compatible with later Treks then it is to the original that we should look as they were there first! And if their continuity has been ignored then it just shows that the writers are not up on their bibles as it were!
DSC and ENT are obviously in another reality, compared to TOS if for no other reason than Yotsuya's comment which I totally agree with! :bolian:

This is your opinion. Too bad for you Roddenberry was of the opposite opinion and since that times it is to newer series/movies that we should look.

Should we keep a little gold statue of Gene? How is the placement of the votive candles and the incense to be done? I might need help ordering the Holy Mistresses iconography.

There's an easy way to handle that. NX-01 encounters a kind of cloak in the 2150's. The technology is learned and no one bothers using it anymore. The way no one builds 1860's style monitors anymore, when they want an armored ship.

Discovery encounters cloaked Klingon ships. Again the technology is most likely not the same as whatever the Romulans use later, or at least by the Romulan incident, the Feds are suprised that Romulus built a variant of the tech from the Klingons. It's not that big of a leap.

Everyone to their own but we also must respect the acorn from which giant trees grow or in DSCs case, in another field entirely! :nyah:

You'd still be wrong.

You can think however you want, it's a free world. But don't act like you're correct.

Get back to me when Mirror Universe characters aren't allergic to bright light, even though the lighting levels were the same across universes in every other show. They're evil so they're allergic to bright lights!

That was some 8th grade fan fic writing that doesn't match up at all with the five other TV series.

You still don't get it. It isn't the changes in and of themselves. It is the juvenile writing that is attached to it.

If Berman and Braga's names were on this show, people would be out with their proverbial pitchforks looking for blood. Remember Commander Chubby? I sure do.
