Disney Scraps Plans For Further Star Wars Storys

It's called marketing. Put the new stuff prominently because that is what they think people will be looking for.

Just make sure the new stuff measures up to the old...

Plenty of people have already countered you and have said what I would have.

Well, gee, if the case is closed maybe don't bother posting at all, then.

It's not like there aren't threads here still debating 50 year old TOS episodes.

Badass but the end result of all that show-offery is a tiny remnant of resistance crammed into the Falcon

And if there movie had ended there, on the Falcon, I'd agree with you. But it didn't. It ended with force-sensitive children inspired by Luke's last stand, retelling his story and looking to the stars. The movie is quite clear in its visuals that they're the next generation of the rebellion.

I think you missed the context and the point of what I was saying,

I most certainly did miss the context because I did not read your entire post, nor have I any intention to, really.
I was skimming through the thread, saw a picture and caught your whinging that a girl is front and (off to the) center on it.

I did not really read the rest of this post either but do feel free to explain the "context" to me a third time if you think that launching a third rant complaining about who races whom on some toy packaging does not make you look entirely silly.

There's really no debate that Rey is a Mary Sue in comparison to Luke.

I can't help but feel a lot of people don't really know what that term actually means.

As a woman I find it disappointing and just touch patronising.

Which is fair enough, except every other woman posting here seems to feel the opposite and several have done a far better job of explaining that position. Why?

Saying something is wrong without proving it is worthless.

The problem isn't "not proving it", the problem is it's been proved to death and people keep making the same inane "Mary Sue" comments without any explanation as to how this female film character represents a literary self insert on the part of the male writer who doesn't resemble her in the slightest.

We could keep pretending "Mary Sue" means "unfeasibly capable female" though if it helps, the fact remains that actually stacking them up tends to favour him, but no one takes issue with him.

It always amuses me that for a fandom that takes so much pride in dissecting the minutia, we apparently have extraordinarily short memories.

Like the little fact that ‘Mary Sue’ was explicably never intended to apply to canonical characters. Because their ‘outsiderness’ from canon was integral to the ‘litmus test.’ For eg. A giveaway was that they’d knock the ‘canon’ love interest out of the picture, and fuck the hero.

And the little niggle of a Mary Sue being a highly idealised version of the writer. Not ‘women,’ although they typically were due to the female-heavy fanfic crowd.

But hey, people are determined to use it for ‘any female character I don’t like.’ Because apparently it’s really important to some, that their knee-jerk emotional response (dislike) be perceived as having some level of ‘objectivity.’ Cos they’re just rational, not like the shills!

It's almost as though people are just throwing terms around they don't understand, who'da thought?

It’s almost like people just uncritically echo buzzwords and broad arguments that they pick up from Youtube and other ‘Internet personalities.’

(The Mary Sue thing literally originated from the amazingly insightful mind of Max fucking Landis.)

To be honest it's amazing how many people seem literally to quote fringe opinions espoused on youtube under the impression that they represent and speak for "the fanbase", not realising the reason those opinions are being voiced there is that they are being voiced by people who don't get taken seriously anywhere else.

I just always think about how even I have some videos up on YouTube.

Which I’m never linking any of you to, because they were Uni related and (no offence to any of my former team mates) they’re bloody embarrassing.
