Disney Scraps Plans For Further Star Wars Storys

That article doesn't say anything substantial. It describes the other (non-trilogy) projects as "moving forward" but with no definite dates set for anything, no potential subjects, etc.... To me, that just says "development hell".

Besides, perhaps the "Lucasfilm Source" they interviewed is DigificWriter? Self-fulfilling prophecy?
ABC is owned by Disney, so the LucasFilm sources are probably real.

That is not how I framed it. I felt in TFA they were seeking Luke. He was the defining moment of the last scene.

I cannot say how disappointing it was to see his characterisation being degraded in Last Jedi. I mean even that title was a mean tease. It made the Rey story seem Mary Sue to me.

See, I don't get that at all. TLJ just picked up on what was already established in the previous movie: that Luke had gone into seclusion and didn't want to be found, because he had failed to keep Ben from the Dark Side and everything had gone to hell. That wasn't something TLJ invented; that was explicitly set up in TFA.

I wasn't at all surprised to find an older, sadder Luke who had withdrawn from the galaxy . . . because that's just what TFA promised us. Of course he tossed his light-saber away and turned his back on Rey at first. Did anybody really expect that he was just going to pick up his light-saber and fly off to save the day?

TFA made it clear that these new movies are all about a new generation of heroes picking up the fight as our Original Heroes serve as aging inspirations and mentors. I thought Hamill was great in THE LAST JEDI, and had one of his best parts in years, but at no time did I ever expect that the movie was going be all about him, any more than TFA was all about Han or Leia or Artoo.

And, honestly, I got all choked up at Luke's final scene. It was very poignant and bittersweet, especially for those of us who have been watching the movies since 1977.

I was wrong and the bad guys were right. A bad day for freedom on the TrekBBS.
People who like Star Wars movies are bad? You have a sad worldview.

Yeah, Luke didn't want to be found. That's why he didn't have anything to do with Han, his best friend, or Leia, his twin sister. The idea that Luke went away and hide himself until a plucky young Jedi showed up so he could reveal himself and kick ass again is bizarre and out of character.

The author of the story has also covered a lot on Star Wars. I’m sure they are real.

And of course they’re not going to go into detail until they’re ready to announce something. Disney’s gotten burned on that before.

It's kind of funny that "they" had STAR WARS' new trajectory all figured out and were counting their billions before they knew what they had. And now, they're having to face Reality, for the first time since the franchise began. It used to be "put STAR WARS on anything and they will come." I appreciate, though, that the swashbuckling spirit of the original trilogy is being preserved, with these new movies. But, wouldn't it be something if the STAR TREK franchise finally got its leg up on STAR WARS? Who would've thought that possible?

CONSPIRACY - JJ killed Star Wars to make his true passion project Star Trek the #1 sci-fi franchise!!!

But that wasn't THE LAST JEDI. That was established in THE FORCE AWAKENS. So why did people act so surprised when TLJ followed up on that thread?

Personally, I thought it made for a very effective character arc, but that's just me.

As for SOLO, I thought it was a fun, sci-fi crime thriller. As for why it under-performed at the box office, my best guess is that "HAN SOLO--without Harrison Ford!" turned out to be a tougher sell than anticipated.

Same thing happened the first time they tried to replace James Bond. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE with George Lazenby was a box-office disappointment as well, despite having some critical admirers. But you know what? The Bond films are still going strong.

I like to think that SOLO is the ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE of STAR WARS. A bump in the road, but exactly proof that the sky is falling. :)

If Luke didn't want to be found, why did he leave behind a map to his location?

My problems with TLJ have nothing to do with the Luke/Rey/Kylo side of the story, though.

I'm not surprised they're still working on the standalones, I thought stopping work on them was really premature at this point.

Would have been perfectly believable if this was the DC Universe though :)

I liked it too and it was a very interesting take on what eventually happens to the "chosen one" type hero. Eventually they're going to fail because no one is perfect. But for them, it's going to hit harder because they've been put on that pedestal and being knocked down causes them to fall farther than the rest of us. It's not an ego thing, it's living up to other's expectations. Luke defeated the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor and resisted the Dark Side. Then when he goes to teach the next generation of Jedi, he fails with his own nephew because of his instinct to act before fully thinking it out, which usually worked out for him. Luke saved his friends despite being warned not to by Yoda and Obi-Wan and saved his father from the Dark Side despite being told he couldn't by Yoda and Obi-Wan. But this time, it failed him and he lost everything. He ran away, probably mostly out of shame of failing his sister and best friend by losing their only son.
