I encountered it with Star Trek Into Darkness. For me, that was the last time I took Internet reviews seriously. The movie was great and deserved far better than it got.

The Internet crew adds yet another layer into the mix. There's a huge difference between going to a movie with a fan that doesn't source forums, message boards, social media etc, to get fired up over. As much as navigating what we do here is interactive it has lessened my appreciation for others points of view.
Which, in of itself, is problematic to me. But, at the same time, hard to ignore the impact on my personal appraisal.
I guess relevant to Star Wars I went to Force Awakens (for example) with someone who doesn't give a shit what the Internet says. I don't think I had read much myself but more than him. It colours your filter.
I have decided that I will go in and meet the film on its terms. Not as what I want, or expected. Just a film that is made to entertain. It's been a lot easier on the blood pressure, let me tell you

That’s really the best we can do. The only thing we logically can do is go along for the ride and take the movie for what it is. I respect those who have done that, even if they find fault with it.
Not for me. I grew to find glaring flaws in, say, AOTC largely on my own after repeat viewings. I already had issues with the Prequels without needing overrated Internet critics and celebrities telling me what was wrong with them.

Possibly. Hard to completely negate influences. However, I'll freely admit that I had zero interest in Han Solo as a character, and connected far more with him in TFA and then in Solo than in the OT. I have my own biases and I'll admit to them.
This cross pollination of the three biggies and bias. One day I might conduct a poll to find out the 'order'. What is the loyalty favourite. Trek, Star Wars or Doctor Who.
The internet soured me on video reviews that are longer than the actual movies!
But for realsies: Nowadays I might check out stuff like RLM every now and then, but not until well after I’ve seen the movie and formed my own opinion. I’m going to be seeing Star Wars anyway, so it’s not like I need to use them to help recommend where I spend my money. They’re just a curiosity.
Forgot that one... it was B-grade for me but I have a liking for RDA, after that it was... too violent.None of the above.

It's funny because I have similar feelings regarding Doctor Who.
