Kathleen Kennedy Damaging Star Wars....?

It's always a bit sad when that happens. I've seen movies that the critics and or fans adored and have not warmed to them at all. I have a particular dislike for open-ended 'endings'. Then it can work the other way. A movie is hyper criticised and in the context of seeing it myself (often months later), I think that wasn't so bad. In fact it might have been good.
I encountered it with Star Trek Into Darkness. For me, that was the last time I took Internet reviews seriously. The movie was great and deserved far better than it got.

The Internet crew adds yet another layer into the mix. There's a huge difference between going to a movie with a fan that doesn't source forums, message boards, social media etc, to get fired up over. As much as navigating what we do here is interactive it has lessened my appreciation for others points of view.

Which, in of itself, is problematic to me. But, at the same time, hard to ignore the impact on my personal appraisal.

The internet soured my opinion of the PT.

I guess relevant to Star Wars I went to Force Awakens (for example) with someone who doesn't give a shit what the Internet says. I don't think I had read much myself but more than him. It colours your filter.

I have decided that I will go in and meet the film on its terms. Not as what I want, or expected. Just a film that is made to entertain. It's been a lot easier on the blood pressure, let me tell you ;)

That’s really the best we can do. The only thing we logically can do is go along for the ride and take the movie for what it is. I respect those who have done that, even if they find fault with it.

I suspect (if you haven't seen it yet?), you already have been influenced on how to frame this and that in the movie (Solo?) by your readings here. Can't put the genie back in the bottle ;)

Possibly. Hard to completely negate influences. But, my personal feelings is simply that the ire against Kennedy, and Disney, and the like, is neither worth avoiding a film, nor not engaging in it when its a franchise that I (for the most part) have enjoyed.

However, I'll freely admit that I had zero interest in Han Solo as a character, and connected far more with him in TFA and then in Solo than in the OT. I have my own biases and I'll admit to them.

The internet soured me on video reviews that are longer than the actual movies!:p

But for realsies: Nowadays I might check out stuff like RLM every now and then, but not until well after I’ve seen the movie and formed my own opinion. I’m going to be seeing Star Wars anyway, so it’s not like I need to use them to help recommend where I spend my money. They’re just a curiosity.

Also, their fan base made it impossible to talk about the prequels in any capacity for about a decade, without it turning into ‘bunch of people vomit Plinkett word for word.’ And that fucking sucked.

I must admit I lost interest and then watched an episode with some vampire like creature that killed what looked like a main character. It was disturbing, but I have a sensitive nature.

It's funny because I have similar feelings regarding Doctor Who.
