Use the '60s Bewitched Darren option of recasting with similar looking actor Dick York was replaced by Dick Sargent.

Roseanne already did this during their original run with two daughter Beckys.

Bewitched did it with Mrs Kravitz and Louise Tate too, but no way it would work if they tried swapping out Samantha.

Roseanne IS the name of the show.

Dies at a white supremacist march when one of her friends mistakes her for a counter protester and drives his car into her?

Yeah, I agree killing the character would send the wrong message about real life. Maybe she contracts a mental illness? ...And one of her friends passes a bill making it legal to lock her up without recourse even though she hasn't done anything wrong because they blamed mental illness for a school shooting to avoid blaming white supremacy.

Given that the character is not a racist, that wouldn't exactly work.

What they could do is simply not continue the show, even with a reduced cast. Sorry, but I don't think anyone cares about the adventures of Darlene.

Then you would be wrong. Most people in the review thread often said the Darlene and kids were the most interesting parts about the revival, myself included. The Internet rumor about converting the show to Darlene derives from that interest on a broader level.

Yeah Roseanne has 1-2 great jokes an episode, but the revival was really all about Darlene and 21st century single mother life in America.

I don't think the dynamic would work without Roseanne. I really can't see Dan existing without her. Perhaps kill both of them off in a car crash and centre the show around Darlene as a single mom raising her kids alone (with Jackie, Becky and DJ also appearing).

To be honest I liked the show as is and it's a shame Roseanne's actions have led to its demise. That being said, she made racist remarks before the show was revived and they still brought it back. What's the difference now? Slightly hypocritical of all involved to feign shock and disgust when she's been saying this sort of stuff for years.

But did she say it when she on some-one else dime? Saying while doing stand up routines or on twitter when you're not working on a series is fine. But when some-one is paying you big bucks to be on their tv show they're gonna expect your best behaviour.

The cast members who are acting shocked and appalled knew what she was like prior to boarding the revival. Their faux outrage does not convince me.

I didn't watch the original religiously, but I usually found Roseanne the actress and Roseanne the character grating. So to me, the show was good for the writing and the entire cast.

Good news on the Barr-free Roseanne front: Barr has "agreed in principle" to allow ABC to continue working with the show and the characters she helped create without her participation and financial gain.

ABC and producer Carsey-Werner are insisting that Barr not participate financially or creatively in the proposed spinoff, which is said to revolve around the character played by Sara Gilbert. Other Roseanne writer-producers and cast members, including John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, are said to be tentatively on board (they would receive the same fees as previously negotiated for the second season of the Roseanne revival, which was ABC’s top-rated program this season).

But since Barr would be entitled to substantial fees and backend on any spin-off of Roseanne (the original series was created by Matt Williams but it is also credited as being "based upon a character created by Barr”), she must waive those rights before any such show could proceed. With Roseanne having tentatively agreed to do so, now the negotiation is over what, if any, one-time payment Barr should receive as “go-away money,” as one source puts it.

If they go ahead, hopefully they'll employ the productions staff such as costumers and set-designers who suddenly found themselves out of work when the show was canned (actors like Goodman and Gilbert had play or pay clauses so they were still walking away with $3mil).

I hope so, too. I like to think since the article suggests they're trying to keep the creative writing team on board that will also extend to the production teams as well.

I sure as hell hope she's getting very little go away money.

It's dead, it's not coming back.

She hasn't done her rehab. She should have deleted Twitter like she said she would, go on a 30 day vacation to 'rehab' and then maybe the show would be saved.

She'd never do it. Period. That's the kind of person she is. The kind of person who wants attention, seeks it. Addicted to Twitter and anything that will help her get. She'll never change.
