3D interiors in Blender

    I've added some further detailing all around the ceiling, as well as some small spotlights along the front of it. I've also finished up the small LCARS surrounding the viewscreen, and added some further details on the aft walls.

    I've modified the Galaxy-Class MSD to be a stardrive section MSD, thought that would fit right in on the Engineering console.

    I've added in the side doors, and all the little extruded details that go along each of the steps.

    Somewhat off topic, but this is as good a place as any, we're currently looking to expand the team working on Stage 9, the Enterprise-D recreation in Unreal Engine. If you're into modeling, sketching, animating, or have Unreal Engine experience and want to help out in any way, feel free to send me a PM. :)

    Looking good!

    This might be relevant to the Stage 9 work. A 3D scan of Picard's Shakespeare bust, from his quarters, was just posted over at the Fleet Workshop. So that might help anyone working on that part of the set.

    I figured it was something like that. I'd say it was smart to hold off on the new release as well, as much as I want to see it. Can't wait to take a stroll when you do release it though!

    I probably shouldn't even post this reply as it will, ultimately, end up as a useless message.

    I would seriously be HONORED to take part in this, but as I've already failed to complete so, so, so many promised projects, I guess I shouldn't offer my services. As much as I'd love to, as I adore the TNG sets, I've yet to even start on the TOS Stage 9 models I've promised to someone.

    I guess I'll be admiring from afar, but I would like to offer my sincerest hopes that you get good talent to finish this project.

    @Lt. Washburn: Thank you very much for that tip, we've already imported the bust into Unreal and are looking into adding it into the project, I'll keep you posted with updates regarding that. :)

    @Savage Dragon: Believe me, we want to release it as well! It'll be worth the wait, I can tell you that. :)

    @Scribble: It's not useless at all my friend! :) I know you're preoccupied with more important stuff right now, but whenever you feel like it, we're the ones who would be honored to have your work in our project. It doesn't have to be a full set or anything like that, nor does it have to be a long term commitment, we're all fans doing this in our free time. There's a lot to do on a 600 meters long ship; every prop, crate, chair and decoration helps! :)

    Going back to the Galaxy battle bridge... I've left the hardest for last, so I've been working on this wall for a couple of days now. [​IMG] It's not particularly hard to model, as you can see, it's just some simple extrusions, but there's just so little in the way of references for it, and I really didn't want to have to model it more than once.

    Anyway, now that's done, as well as the small extrusions where the side wall and pillars each meet the aft wall.

    I've added the remaining details on the forward area of the bridge, including an access hatch on the floor directly in front of the main viewscreen.

    Shouldn't the little warp field diagram be just the stardrive section, to match the engineering display?

    @Matthew Raymond: Damn firewalls, what good have they ever done? :p

    @The Librarian: Yeah I thought about that when adding in that little graphic, but given that this is a the battle bridge as it looks on any normal day, the warp field graphic does have to take into account the entirety of the ship; while the MSD is just of the stardrive section as that's what the battle bridge is configured to control. I would assume that if the ship were to separate, then the little warp field diagram would change to showcase only the stardrive as well.

    I've added in the aft doors as well as the fire extinguishers. I'd say that only a couple of details are left and that I'd be finishing this in the next 24 hours, but every time I do that some crap happens in real life and everything comes to a halt, so I won't do that...

    Maan... this Galaxy Battle bridge looks awesome. For some reason I'm getting star trek IV vibes from the lighting and colors... really pleasing to the eye.

    @Norsehound: Thank you! Absolutely, the lighting on this bridge is certainly a lot darker and less 'in your face' than on most Starfleet interiors of the era.

    I've tweaked the aft wall a bit further, and added some final details from the 'Arsenal of Freedom' battle bridge in, both per @Rusty0918's request. Here are some finished renders. I'm really happy with how this one turned out, the lack of lighting and the unorthodox detailing (like the unique floor and dark metallic colors) were certainly a break from the norm. :)

    @DanGovier: Indeed! @Rusty0918 wanted it to be exactly that way, his idea for the USS Galaxy interiors is to re-imagine the TNG aesthetic as if Nicholas Meyer would've been involved. So a bit more utilitarian looking, with stuff such as access hatches, fire extinguishers, metallic surfaces, etc.

    @Wingsley: I'd like to, but I probably won't be doing that any time soon, as I'm already quite busy with other projects and upcoming commissions.

    Once the BBOW battle bridge is completed, you can also tweak it enough to make the USS Melbourne bridge seen briefly in BBOW 1.

    @CaptainSerek: Hehe, yeah I could, but knowing myself and what I ended up doing with the Odyssey, it wouldn't be that easy, I'd end up doing a ton of changes. Then again, I'm not going to do the BoBW battle bridge, so it'll have to wait for another time. :)

    I took today "off" to update my USS Anchorage bridge, which was one of the few bridges I made that still didn't have a schematic style cutaway view.

    I had finished it more than a year ago, and a lot changed in that year! I've updated all the textures to the more accurate TNG LCARS color pallet I now use, as well as swapped the meshes of the conn/ops consoles and Captain's chair for the newer versions. The bridge itself is now 10% smaller (which isn't that obvious as the old chairs were HUGE, and the door sizes were completely off), so now this bridge is just slightly smaller than the Enterprise-D bridge, rather than slightly larger as it was before. Also, as the size is different, all the LCARS keyboards had to be rearranged, hence they have new designs now. Finally, all the materials are different as they're now using the Principled Shader available on the latest version of Blender, which is why light bounces and shadows are more realistic now.
