Star Wars Rebels Season Four (spoilers)

So with a new series coming out this Fall, I guess Filoni telling us "he can never think of the next story until this one is done" might have been from a different point of view. :)

No, just a different point in time. From his perspective, Rebels was "done" much earlier than it was for us, because there's a lot of time that passes between the end of the writing process and the release date.

Yes, but at the time he was saying it (when people were asking about what was after Rebels) he was saying "I can't think about that NOW" when he was clearly neck deep in whatever was next.

Not QUITE "Khan is not in Into Darkness" but still...

Well, of course he wasn't going to tell them about the next thing before the current thing ended. And did he actually say "now," or did people just assume that from what he actually said? My impression was that he spoke more in general terms of "I prefer to finish the current project before considering the next."

Filloni is mastering the art of trolling the audience for their own good. Recall his shirt at the last Celebration. It was "Ahsoka Lives?" for the entire weekend...until they Rebels panel showed the Fourth season trailer. Then, in the last few moments you see him on stage...he has on a slightly different shirt...same color and font, but with the words "Ahsoka Lives!". At the very end of the convention.

You know I swear I don't go looking for this stuff, but for some reason, whenever I see something that seems to draw a line between Ahsoka and Gandalf it just jumps out at me.

Sound familiar, or at least eerily evocative to anyone else, or is it just me?
(For those not so familiar with Tolkien literature, it's this bit in the movies.)

ETA...and right after posting this, it occurred to me that the first part of that passage could be interpreted as being very evocative of how the fight with Vader ended; with him falling down through the floor and the temple ("mountain") discharging it's weapon.
This may be the point where I'm reading too much into this, but the imagery seems to fit.

I don't know exactly where I'm going with this thought, but I kind of get the sense that the whole Gandalf thing may somehow relate to the way they chose to portray Plo Koon (very wizardly, if not exactly Gandalf-like.) and his connection with Ahsoka.

It also occurs to me that even Ahsoka's pattern of behaviour in Rebels was very much like Gandalf's. What with the going off on secretive errands on her own, showing up unexpectedly when it seemed to matter the most...friends with a bird...

I'd think that Filoni used his love and knowledge of Tolkien as a springing off point. Some beats more literal, others flowing from where that led him. Much as I understand Tolkien did with his own inspirations.

I miss Rebels...

When Clone Wars was canceled did those fans have any hope of the continuation that they got in Rebels?

Speaking for myself, when I heard that Rebels was also from Dave Filoni, I did suspect and hope that he would use the opportunity to resolve some leftover story threads. Lots of writers do that, like when comics writers get a series cancelled mid-storyline and then wrap it up in whatever series they do next, or when Peter David did a Star Trek: The Next Generation novel wrapping up a plotline he'd been forced to drop in the ST:TOS comic. I've done it myself with my post-TMP Star Trek writing -- after Ex Machina failed to get a sequel, I managed to sneak continuations into a couple of other projects. So it seemed natural to expect that Filoni would repurpose some unused TCW elements for Rebels. There was no guarantee, though.

Seemed pretty obvious to me just upon first read.

Wow!!
The pose is great - with her sabers tucked behind her back. If we ever see a live action Ahsoka (AHEM*) would she look like this I wonder? Rebels-era Ahsoka is best Ahsoka.
I can't see any in-universe reason why she couldn't end up somehow in ether The Mandalorian or the Captain Andor series.

It's a beautiful piece to be sure but...I just don't see Ahsoka in that face. It's more like a very good cosplay of Ahsoka than Ahsoka herself. Also if I want to be *really* nitpicky about it, the face markings seem a little off.
