I am new to the world of Star Trek and am going to start watching the Original Series in production order. I see that there is already a 50th year anniversary viewing currently active. Would there be any interest by anyone, perhaps folks that joined after that thread began, to begin a new group viewing? I was thinking a similar structure where we watched one episode a week and discussed it. Anyone interested?

I very well might be, yes. I'm not nearly as familiar with production order as airdate order so it might be . . . fascinating.

Sure, why not! Even if I miss the episode I'm sure I can still carry on a conversation. Not like I didn't watch TOS nearly every day for 15 years, LOL

Production Order is my preferred method of viewing TOS. Real Life permitting, I'm in! :-)

Cool! I'm definitely not read into the intricate details of the Star Trek Universe so this will be a lot of learning for me. I just think it would be fun to find other folks that like to watch things in order and are willing to share their experience with others. My wife and kids have no interest in this type of thing so it will be nice to have others to talk with. I say we leave it open for awhile longer to see if any other people want to join in.

When and how often might we be watching?

I was thinking perhaps one episode a week. Maybe start discussing the next episode each Monday. You can watch the episode anytime during the week. My goal would be to keep it simple. I am obviously open to any other ideas as well. Two episodes a week, one episode wvery 2 weeks. Whatever works for everyone. I know we all have busy lives so would want it to be as accommodating as possible.

One a week sounds doable and gives everyone a chance to comment on it.

I will put together a tentative schedule. What source do you all have available to you. I have the Remastered blu rays.

Yeah, probably because of the original DVDs and the Concordance (which heavily influenced me as a kid - I think I literally wore the cover off of it), both of which I believe used airdate order,, I've just never really gotten into production order despite its clear appeal. Hence my interest! I want to see what you and others have been seeing all along.

    Cool!
But maybe announce the episode of the week for those of us who don't remember the order by heart. I know I could look it up but I'm lazy...

I am certainly interested, it's always refreshing to learn how you experience something new to you which is so familiar to myself. Plus, it'll give me a chance to catch up on my technical journ... I mean to rewatch the episodes. I hate to say it but even though I love them so much I don't always watch them that much anymore.

Friday night death slot one episode a week sounds great!

My only question is integrating my watching of episodes for their 50th anniversaries with this watching of episodes in production order. I suppose the solution is watch two episodes per week come the fall..

Mine too, it was the way Trek was aired in the 80s syndication package when I became old enough to pay attention to such things (which was high school, sadly for me the show didn’t air at all where I lived for about five years prior to that). I find that the show evolves better when watched in this order (guess that shouldn’t be surprising, lol).

You’ll be busy! How is that 50th anniversary viewing going? I don’t want to do that since I have only seen a few random episodes from the first season.

It's fun. Pretty mind blowing to be watching a show 50 years after it originally aired.

When my local Public Television station bought the rights to show them, they had 3 episodes on every Saturday night in production order, so I've seen them that way, but my DVDs are in airing order so it's been a while because I never bothered to switch out the DVD for the production order. Plus, watching for years on independent UHF stations in random order never stopped me.
