Netflix greenlights new "Lost in Space"

I'm four episodes into the Netflix Lost in Space and I don't understand why people are seeing the Robot as sexy. I find him kind of annoying and slowing the series down. All he says is "Danger, Will Robinson" and has a starry face.

As for the rest of the series, it's been decent but I'm finding with these netflix shows most of them start out really slow. It's not until like the 4th hour where things start to pick up, and if you're looking at this from a movie perspective, that's too much time for things to really get going. I am liking the family chemistry though, and Penny might be my favorite character so far. Also, Will is not as annoying as I thought he would be.

Penny seems to be everyone's favourite character.

I started with "Penny is my favorite" and then I moved to "Everyone is my favorite."

Because how could Will not be my favorite? Except when John is my favorite? And obviously Maureen is my favorite...

It goes like that, right?

Makes such a difference that all the characters had defined personalities and got something meaningful to do. I really rooted for them to succeed.

But it's not a movie. I am for one really glad they took the time they needed to develop the characters and the situation they were in. Shows that they have attention to detail. If this were a movie, the characters likely wouldn't have as much depth.

I was thinking in terms of time. 4 hours to finally get to something interesting seems like too long a time, especially with the array of other shows and interests out there. Don't get me wrong the first three episodes were pretty good (Though I think the second episode was the weakest so far) but it did feel like a slog.

I actually felt the first one was the weakest. It sets up the overall situation, but not much else. But in terms of time, I don't really see an issue. If you compare it to Discovery and the first few episodes, Lost in Space did much better with the time they had.

I'm not ready to make that comparison yet but I am enjoying the series so far. The thing I do love about it is it's a sci fi series on Netflix that isn't violent, bloody, or has trash language. I don't mind those things, mind you but it's nice to have veriety.

In terms of the first episode it did what it needed to do. The second episode I didn't really understand the West/Smith plot other than setting it up for the ending. It felt like there were 5 different plots going on and maybe I need to watch it again to get a better grasp of it .

Yeah, exactly. It's actually quite an inspiring series, and something I did find refreshing about it. There are already enough dark and violent series, and to be honest, when I first heard that Netflix was doing a reboot, my fears were that they were going to turn it into a dark series, but was really pleased that they hadn't. It's nice to just be able to sit down and not worry about that.

Kevin Burns said that when making it they were treating it as one 10 hour movie split into parts. I think the production shows that well. It feels like a mini movie each episode. OK and now Penny isn't my favourite either it's a tie with her and Smith.

I watched up through episode 7 last night. The chariot scene across the gyser land was probably my favorite scene of the series so far. Also, it was sad Will killed the robot.

That's what I said upstream. The ten episodes seemed like the pilot for a LOST IN SPACE.

My take exactly. I finally made it thru all ten episodes - sometimes it was a slog with too much reliance on zany predicaments or characters being stupid or not communicating so the plot can get from A to B - but by the end, I was fully sold on this show.

The characters have gelled. Don West and Penny are my favorites, just because the actors invest them with so much life and the writers give them all the best lines. I was afraid Will was too young to be a strong character, but by the end, I'd say he's one of the best.

Dr. Smith has the advantage of being by far the most multidimensional of the bunch. Everyone else is pretty straightforward, but she's some kind of headcase, isn't she? The kind that exerts an almost magnetic attraction for any story, that swirls around the chaos she leaves in her wake. Maybe she really is the hero of the story, or at least the anti-hero.

I have a feeling that season 2 is going to be far better than season 1. It certainly has far more potential. Argh, now we wait a whole year...

Maybe we'll even get a guy in a carrot suit.

Wow. I thought "Smith" was frighteningly believable. But that hasn't been the consensus. The "hero" characters have a legitimate and believable reason for confirmation bias. Which she uses to her advantage at every juncture.

I finished the series tonight. Pretty good first season even though there were a few things it felt like were dropped that shouldn't have been. Maybe it was the limitations of a ten episode season but the revelation from episode 8...

that the engine from the alien ship was stolen and the robots were there to get it back

...felt like it needed more meat around it. Also we know Will failed and Maureen pulled some strings, but I was a little confused why he failed. He seemed like a smart kid.

As for Smith, I didn't like her at first but I can see how she can be multi-faceted. She got better as the series went on.

In terms of favorite characters, there's penny and I also liked Judy and Don West. This is a cast of likable people so that's pretty good.

I have to say I enjoyed this more than Discovery but Discovery is decent. This seemed to flow as an arc better.

Looking forward to season 2.
