Two new Star Trek films in the works

There are the big three that many people have, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. They're generally worth the price because of the quantity of shows they have. Cbs is another service you have to get just for only one show. I'm just speaking for myself of course

But, the tendency is towards studios having their own content and shows (Disney with their platform, CBS, and other studios are going to follow suit). So, Netflix started it, and now it has progressed.

Soon, it will be less cable bundles and more streaming bundles.

The streaming packages tend to be better value than the subscription services.

Ten years ago I was paying about forty pounds per month on the satellite package, and I’d probably watch one movie a week and the Simpson’s. We were never in to watch anything.

Now, we pay half that, get Netflix, sky movies, and sky entertainment. And everything is on demand. We even have amazon Prime, but never watch that because it needs a different dongle in the telly. Add to that the free streaming service like BBC and Channel 4. The only thing we watch “live” is Man v Food.

It doesn’t surprise me that Discovery is on pay channels, people will pay or they will wait.

I don't have cable at all. All I have is hulu and Netflix

Same here. But, that's the point. Production companies want to control their content directly and so they are crafting streaming platforms to fit that model.

i think people are upset that it's another service you have to pay for instead of being on netflix or hulu

The problem is when you exclude people you end up with fewer viewers and make less money in the form of advertising. It's sort of a double edged sword. I personally am not paying for any subscription that gives me only one show to watch. It's why I never subscribed to HBO. I'll wait and watch it somewhere else or write it off totally.

Of course then Game of Thrones became so dark I stopped wanting to watch it but that's a different story all together. Lol

I used HBO because the only show that interested my family at the time was Game of Thrones. We did not subscribe. One show just wasn't worth it.

My Internet cap is abysmal so really I couldn't exploit Netflix beyond Discovery. If it comes to regular TV then that would be a plus but I'm not sure how that will pan out or if it will.

I consider myself a diehard as well but i won't pay for the service

Not all of them. The Good Fight is All Access only like DISCO. And I think they are planning others.
