Favorite Starfleet Uniforms

I love the TOS uniform, except for those jumpsuits crewman wore. Second fav would be the all black w/colored shoulders from DS9 & VOY, 3rd would be the ones that replaced those.

I loved the Deep Space Nine uniforms; its a nod to the jumpsuits from "This Side of Paradise", a great Trek episode, and it was a departure from TNG outfits. It represented this new cast of heroes who would be going no where and they would have to jump in and walk through the mud to get stuff done. I've always adored the slim fit Next Gen outfits because it was young and sexy; for me slim fit was always Trek-- to show the full figure of Star Fleet officers and a cast member couldn't cheat on their diets.

Check out Avery Brooks beefy appearance in the pilot, and how he slimmed down episode after episode to be appropriate for the jumpsuit. I wish DS9 kept those outfits because it was theirs, while VOY adopted them and made some mods, but DS9 had to get those bulky FC outfits--which for me--I felt cheapen the outfits because I felt the movie universe should be separate from the TV productions.

Even tho "Generations", a ridiculous effort of a movie, already broke that rule, and bringing Worf to DS9, I felt it was muddying the waters and lead to the rifts to come. The product felt more of the same to me and the FC outfits lost that magic it ounce had. It's TV worthy now, and a sign of production laziness; the genesis to Trek fatigue, and creative bankruptcy for me. As TNG movies eventually became as well. Just to show TV Executive Producers should not be movie producers at the same time.

You have no idea how many times I've been sat at a computer in normal gravity all day like most of the crew of Enterprise and then thought to myself "Damn, I wish I was wearing a one piece flight suit right now! There's nothing better than needing to undress from the knees up just to have a dump!".

They weren't practical for anyone aside from the engineers.
Imagine poor Troi for most of Next Gen:lol:

Favorite is the First Contact/DS9season5 uniform.

Runner up is either Enterprise or Discovery.

Although impractical my favourite uniforms have always been the TOS versions! And maybe the earlier versions as worn in WNMHGB and The Cage!

My favorite is probably the most current. Colored shirt under black jacket with grey shoulders.
Runner up would be TOS/JJ movies. I liked the style of TOS, but one of the only things I liked about the JJ reboots, was their uniforms.

I don't think that other than being blue there's much resemblance.

.

Now, I was thinking the opposite. One piece jumpsuit, open in the front (zipper probably for both but I'm not sure), pockets

Especially this http://img.trekmovie.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/fincke.png right image is Endeavour STS-134 Mission Specialist Michael Fincke. We'll, so is the left image.

Those are flight suits. But you're right, it wouldn't make sense for the Engineers in Star Trek to wear them either, since they never seem to rip their clothes or get any grease, dirt or paint on them.
That's for Captains.

Although impractical my favourite uniforms have always been the TOS versions!
How are they impractical? It's a simple shirt and slacks combo.

Well for one they shrink during a wash (well the first and second season versions did) and they didn't seem to fit with this day and age version of a uniform! But they are my favourite outfit in Trek so I'm not knocking them as such!

The First Contact ones seem very bulky. There's a gray undershirt, then the thick colored overshirt, then a vest for some reason, then the gray-and-black jacket. Those things must be a 100 degrees inside.

I wonder how many pants and trousers they're wearing.

Not sure how that translates as being impractical as uniforms. As I said, it's a basic pullover and slacks combo. Is it all that different than this?
