Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I wonder if there's anyway they'll make the Enterprise from the aborted Final Frontier web series?

That project is probably too obscure, and because it is concept art for a non-contracted product (unlike Planet of the Titans, which was company-backed). Plus, the design was not finalized.

Is it any less obscure than a ship from a calendar? But perhaps I’m just salty we’re not getting a proper TAS version...

I actually prefer the calendar version to the TAS one. It actually looks like a ship that could have been built between the NX and the Enterprise.

Very nice work!

Although, it sets off my OCD that those Star Trek Logs aren’t in numerical order, lol
HA! Yeah I actually moved a few books into that spot just for the image and it wasn't until I was totally done that I realized they were all out of order.

While I think it's neat their doing more obscure ships from concept art and what not it feels like their scraping the bottom of the barrel sometimes. I wonder how feasible it is for eaglemoss to strike a deal with cryptic and produce some of the more fan favorite sto ships like the avenger class battlecruiser.

Yeah...am getting close to calling it quits. Interesting stuff is being held off on, while the range is extended to give us stuff that’s minor redresses of existing models...as well as hinges that shouldn’t be there, such as the concept art ships. The discovery ships should have been in the main range but aren’t, so I haven’t bothered, it’s a bit...milking the fans. The only reason I haven’t quit yet is because they aren’t really for me, they are for the little one...but his interest has waned (Minecraft happens.) and the idea of having the complete numbered collection that we signed up for way back when appeals...but not if they keep extending the range and adding filler. I don’t have room in the house tbh. They should have made some of the starships exist as optional to the range...they have done with the shuttles (which really should have been in the range, since things like runabouts and captains yachts are) and the mirror ships etc. Instead we get stuff like the formulam science ship (aka the rotulam scout ship with an arse enhancement) and even the Bozeman and Frankenstein fleet ships are stretching things. (I won’t even go into all the one and done ships that seem to get put up the roster ahead of those that are really interesting.)

Perhaps this is the problem with ‘collection’ vs a ‘range’. If they weren’t set up as a collection, more people would opt for buying only the ships they want. They have set themselves up as both, with any ‘subscriber’ benefits now basically down to that rather naff Borg poster (I.e a glossy photo paper print out of what amounts to fan art) with any other collectibles now sold via the store, and things like the Ent D plaque basically being a lead in to buying from their range. I didn’t even buy the Titan and Aventine, because they weren’t part of the subscription (and some of those specials that are...aren’t that special. Loo paper starship and k7 I am looking at you.) and I was already sick of the wallet assault.

This isn’t even a knee jerk reaction...I remember how annoyingly out of hand the fact files got, I spent yesterday looking over the predicted list and deciding to cut my losses next time they announce an extension of the main range. I almost regret starting the collection, since finishing it will feel like a colossal waste overall, and simply fill the house with boxes of starships. For some reason, I assumed they were gonna be more...restrained, when the collection started. But no. There’s the Yeager. There’s the predicted stuff for concept art. There’s the fact that some things are still horribly inaccurate (the shuttle bays on the ent D should have been my warning, and the refit should have been a second one. Then the Ent C...)
Am feeling a bit cynical about it now, even accepting such things are about a profit for the company, the approach is starting to use up my goodwill.

Your argument makes sense. What I would focus on - don’t collect a Collection. Cut the sub and pick stuff you like. And when the little one’s interest wanes further, sale some of the stuff on eBay or Amazon. The collection is supposed to be quirky fun, not an obligation.

I have a thread ongoing about the best TMP Enterprise refit model, I was just wondering what peoples opinion of the Eaglemoss model is? I'm looking for something to put on my bookcase and sigh at.

The geek hoarder gene runs through this family like the force in a sky walker. Selling it is not an option, it would break his heart. But if they don’t end their numbered run soon, we are just gonna bit the bullet and cancel. It’s a family holidays worth of moolha spent so far, and it’s reaching the point where the quality of the ships, and the quality of enjoyment it brings, just isn’t there. We used to have starship days...get them all done, take a few out, ‘fly’ them, put them back. But it’s just to big a collection to do that now, and I think that’s part of why his interest is waning...seeing a huge pile of ships and knowing they are yours is cool to a little one, but rotating between such a mass, and all the ‘boring’ ships starting outnumber the cool ones just isn’t fun I guess.

Each to his own I suppose... ;). Frankly, I LOVE the frankenfleet, K-9, etc. ships, specials, shuttles, etc. and hope the line continues for many more years to come. Just the fact that some of these ships are actually being done as a model is fantastic. I never thought I'd see so many obscure ships see the light of day. I can overlook the few "inconsistencies" in some models as overall I'm very happy for what I'm getting... especially at this price point per model.
