Legends of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Now I want to see a version of LoT with John Oliver in place of John Constantine. Although it would require a lot of bleeping.
Legends of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Not quite, as Sara was never called Black Canary in-story, only in some promotional materials and toys. She was the Canary (a translation of her League of Assassins title Ta-er al-Usfar, meaning "Yellow Bird"), and is now White Canary. The only people to bear the title Black Canary in the Arrowverse have been Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake (and Evelyn Sharp for one episode, but not "officially").
John Oliver in place of John Constantine.
That was what I assumed happened, that once she realized they were going to need help she went and picked up the Legend's friends who she thought would be the most likely to help them.So maybe Ava got the signal and went on her own quest through time to assemble a Legends B team? Hey, that could make a cool tie-in comic.
That was what I assumed happened, that once she realized they were going to need help she went and picked up the Legend's friends who she thought would be the most likely to help them.
Well, it wasn't just Ava realizing it. In the scene with Jonah Hex and Zari aboard the Waverider, Zari told Hex that she was programming a temporal beacon or distress signal that she was sending out to summon help. If she was just calling up Ava and saying "Hey, go get help for us," you'd think she would've just said that. Instead, she characterized it as some sort of signal sent out across time to whoever could receive it, or at least that was my impression. Yet none of the people who showed up could realistically have been expected to receive it except Ava. So it's kind of a plot hole.
Vixen is apparently a shared role now, so that could have been received through any means they have set up between them, since the new timeline is really different, and the Vixen(s) would be aware that something was different, i'm guessing?
Themyscara in some versions has some pretty decent tech, and who knows how long Helen has been there training. (Do we know if Helen was dropped off there in the distant past, or in the present? I always assumed it was the past, but it really could be anything.)
Huh? That's not how time-alteration stories usually work. And even if they did have some odd sense that something about their life wasn't right, how would that translate to having the actual technology to receive a temporal beacon, let alone coordinate with its other recipients to arrive at the same time?
Bottom line, the whole "distress call" bit with Zari just made no sense in the context of what we actually saw happen later on. It would've been better if she'd just said she'd contacted the Time Bureau for help, but I guess that would've spoiled the surprise of Ava's Big Damn Hero entrance.
It was 1253 BCE, contemporaneous with the Trojan War. It was explicitly stated in dialogue that Zari's "hack" to history was to return Helen to her proper time as Sara ordered her to do, but just not in the same place.
I didn't remember if it had shown a date; i just remember the visual of Themyscira. Given that either way Helen disappears from history, its not really a hack, and they could have just kept her in the present with them with no other differences.
Alternatively, Mari is plugged into the superhero community, which could very easily be monitoring for Legends calls through Cisco or Felicity.
But that's just it -- she doesn't disappear from history. She's in exactly the time she left; she's only moved physically to a different part of the Mediterranean. Okay, Themyscira doesn't usually interact much with Man's World in modern times, but the classical legends of the Amazons had to come from somewhere, so presumably there was more interaction back in the age of myth. Maybe she even goes back to Troy after she's sufficiently trained and plays a more direct role in resolving the Trojan War, and takes more control of her life afterward. Heck, for all we know, Homer glossed over that part because his audiences didn't want to hear about an empowered woman, so it may not even have changed the myth significantly.
Okay, that's plausible, at least. But then, it would've been nice if their distress call had also brought the Flash or Mr. Terrific or someone from outside the LoT family.
I was operating under the assumption that Themyscara is hidden and uninvolved, and by putting her there, she's off the radar completely and therefore a disappearance from Earth history.
And again, we're talking about the age of myth, the time when the Amazons were interacting directly with various Greek heroes and the like. Indeed, the Aeneid and other sources record that the Amazons actually fought in the war on the Trojans' side. Which suggests that taking Helen to live with the Amazons is not removing her completely from the Trojan War narrative, just giving her a more active role within it.
Should Gary get powers since he will now be a regular?
Is he even a comic established character?
After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends are ready to ease off the gas. Sara (Caity Lotz) and her team join Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) and the Time Bureau to help clean up the last few remaining anachronisms. The job seems straightforward enough until Constantine (Matt Ryan) arrives to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with “Fugitives” – magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. As the Time Bureau is distrustful of and ill-equipped to deal with magic, the Legends must team up with everyone’s favorite demonologist to set history back on track.
Sara and Constantine are joined by compassionate inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), hotheaded ex-con Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), rebellious totem-bearer Zari (Tala Ashe), and heartbroken historian-turned-superhero Nate (Nick Zano) as they set out to save the world – and their legacy. It’s the familiar fun of the Legends time-travelling across historical events and encountering famous figures with an added shot of magical craziness!
Indeed. No love for Wally in that synopsis? Dammit Barry, it's your fault!
