Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 3

Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow is on Netflix now (in the US at least, I don't know about other regions), in case anyone didn't know. I skipped this season while it was airing, but I've wanted to see some of the characters I've been missing (mostly just Mick, to be honest) so I'll probably take a look now that its all available. I'm not expecting it to be good, but if I get a few funny scenes with Mick I'll be happy enough to watch a few episodes.

^ Enjoy! (Or, you know, enjoy not enjoying and then venting about hyperbolically and profanely. ;) )

I haven't enjoyed LoT since Season 1 ended (outside of Mick in general and the shows part of Crisis on Earth X), since half the good cast members left after season 1 and then Season 2 murdered the entire concept of the JSA. But, if worse comes to worse I'll just skip through episodes to find some good Mick moments, because he's the one shinning light in the darkness that is LoT. Well, I also liked Stein a lot but I know he's dead, since that was connected to the crossover which I did watch.

I've mostly avoided spoilers, except in the crossover, so all I know about season 3 going in (mostly from the crossover or social media posts/things on this forum I couldn't avoid) is:

-Stein Dies
-Jax leaves and Wally joins
-The writers don't know who the fuck DC's Isis is, but they liked the name Adrianna Tomaz so they steal it for an original character, but also add the name Zari to her name and give her random, unconnected powers because fuck comic fans (which is the LoT staff's default stance)
-There is a blue teddy bear thing and its really fucking stupid
-Constantine might have a cameo
-Rip Hunter is one of the villains, but an offscreen one who tries to stop the heroes because thats what people fucking want, right?
-The worst Arrowverse big bad is now the main bad guy of the season (yes, Dahrk is worse then Savage)

This should show you how much LoT season 1 made me like Mick, because there is no one on the LoT cast I'd put up with this garbage just for a chance to see, not even my other LoT favorites (Rip Hunter, Stein and Snart, fyi).

I predict I'll drop it 10 minutes into the first episode because the plot of Rip actively fighting the Legends (offscreen obviously, because why pay for a good actor when you can use that money to keep the blocks of wood playing Steel and fake Vixen on the show) is fucking infuriating and I haven't even started the show yet, but I might skip around episodes if anything seems like a good set up for a scene/subplot for Mick.

^ Come on, man. Commit to watching the whole thing, posting after every episode and trying to top your own outrage each time, until you ultimately achieve some kind of sublime apotheosis of comic-fan fury. Do it for me.

As opposed to mindlessly complimenting anything they do? Some people would praise the show even if, I don't know, Nate became a Neo Nazi and murdered Sara, Vixen and Jax. They'd just say how different it is and how its proof of how good the CW shows are (similar to the people obsessed with DC movie, I wonder if there is a connection there...). I personally find people who mindlessly defend stuff and hate other people's opinions to be extremely irritating.

Anyway, rest assured I'll have a lot of things to say. Heck, right now 'Im already about 10 minutes into episode 1 (took a break to make myself dinner) and my thoughts so far:

-Rip Hunter did cameo, and he's an idiot and an asshole. I wonder if he'll apologise when his shitty Time Bureau inevitably fucks up and the Legends are needed again, or if all of Season 3 will involve the Legends fighting him and his group of morons.

-There is no fucking way that Sara couldn't get a better job. Isn't Ollie mayor at this point? He could probably help. She also has a Dad who probably has buddies or other connections. Working for a living d-bag at a Bed, Bath & Beyond is a really shitty gag by the writers.

-Did Ray actually not have any money stashed away? No smart person who had their own company is that stupid. He could definitely get a better job then working at a dating app company with what have to be a wall full of degrees and the intelligence to probably whip up some money making invention when he feels like it.

I'm just waiting for Mick, because I know whatever he's doing is actually going to be entertaining.

This is hilarious, because the show has gotten better season-by-season. This most recent season was the best yet, and the season finale was GREAT.

O.K. The Legends need to stop reading my thoughts every time before I start thinking I'm psychic. :guffaw:

Minutes before the episode I was thinking about Voltron – I've been trying to recall the name of the show for like a few years now, and it finally came to me 5 minutes before I saw Legends of Tomorrow. (Been trying to remember if this Transformers fad has anything to do with some big robot show I used to watch as a kid; now I finally remembered it's Voltron and nothing to do with whatever Transformers is, so I won't have to watch those. Whew, dodged the bullet.)

And now Rey is talking about Voltron the whole episode?

That's like the fourth time that's happened. Previous time was when I was reading about Anne Bonny right before watching the pirate episode. Or maybe not, because I think I was definitely singing Are You Lonesome Tonight before the Elvis one. :rommie:

Since psychic powers do not exist, I think I'm a time-travelling cylon sleeper agent. :ouch:
You know, Netflix actually has a new version Voltron that they've been doing for the last 3 or 4 years. I haven't watched it myself yet, but most of what I've seen online about it has been pretty positive. It's from some of the people who worked on Legend of Korra.
I haven't enjoyed LoT since Season 1 ended (outside of Mick in general and the shows part of Crisis on Earth X), since half the good cast members left after season 1 and then Season 2 murdered the entire concept of the JSA.
Oh god, please please tell me you're not talking about the Hawks and Vandal Savage, because they're the only ones who have actually left. Pretty much everyone else still pops up from time to time.
But, if worse comes to worse I'll just skip through episodes to find some good Mick moments, because he's the one shinning light in the darkness that is LoT. Well, I also liked Stein a lot but I know he's dead, since that was connected to the crossover which I did watch.
This season is a fairly tight arc, so there really aren't any episodes you can skip without losing important plot points.

These happen fairly late in the season and are very well done.
-

I'm not familiar with the comics version, but Zari is a great character, and really nice addition to the cast. Just the fact that she's one of (the?) first muslim superheroes on TV is a big plus for me.
-There is a blue teddy bear thing and its really fucking stupid
Beebo is awesome.
-
Constantine might have a cameo
Constatine plays a significant part in two episodes. He'll also being joining the cast full time next season.
-
Rip Hunter is one of the villains, but an offscreen one who tries to stop the heroes because thats what people fucking want, right?
This is completely wrong.
-
The worst Arrowverse big bad is now the main bad guy of the season (yes, Dahrk is worse then Savage)
This season has done a ton of character development for Damian Dahrk, and turned him into one of the best villains in the Arrowverse.

Someone needs to make Beebo dolls.
This is one of the most obvious merchandising oportunities in the entire Arrowverse so far.

You know, Netflix actually has a new version Voltron that they've been doing for the last 3 or 4 years. I haven't watched it myself yet, but most of what I've seen online about it has been pretty positive. It's from some of the people who worked on Legend of Korra.

Yeah. I was never that fond of the original Voltron (if you can call a kiddified, edited, renamed English dub of a Japanese series "original"), but the new show is pretty good. More oriented toward warfare and explosions than I like, but with the same kind of cleverness and character richness that Avatar/Korra had, and a similar animation style. I really like the main title music and animation too.

Oh god, please please tell me you're not talking about the Hawks and Vandal Savage, because they're the only ones who have actually left. Pretty much everyone else still pops up from time to time.

If they aren't a regular, they don't count. So, Rip Hunter (Season 1 version, not the shit head in Season 3) and Snart are the ones I miss. Also, Hawkgirl is still 1000x better then Steel or fake Vixen, but that admittedly doesn't make her a "good" character.

I'm not familiar with the comics version, but Zari is a great character, and really nice addition to the cast. Just the fact that she's one of (the?) first muslim superheroes on TV is a big plus for me.

As a fan of Captain Marvel, Adrianna was a big part of the Marvel Family stuff starting with the superb 52 weekly series (no connection to the New 52). So, yeah, the writers manage to fuck her up worse then they fucked up characters like Hourman (although the JSA overall is still the most fucked over DC comics thing ever done in a CW show). I get that they can't call her Isis, fine. But don't add an extra first name for no fucking reason, and at least put her in a similar costume. Something more modest then the normal costume is fine, but make it white and add some jewlery or something, instead they went with generic superhero jumpsuit #45657d. Plus, you know, she shares no backstory with any version of the comic character, and doesn't share the powers, either. Actually, being a hacker might just be as far from the point of the character as they could get.

This is completely wrong.

Well, I was only wrong about how long he'd do it. But, they completely ruined the character. He's now a complete asshat, and deserves to get his smug face punched in. Also, they definitely set his group up as a recurring obstacle, especially that dumbass female agent.

This season has done a ton of character development for Damian Dahrk, and turned him into one of the best villains in the Arrowverse.

:guffaw:

He's a shit character who was only better then Vandal Savage because his actor is very good (and wasted in the role). He is the most generic magic villain I've seen in a non-kids TV show in a long, long time. He has no real motivation outside of WORLD DOMINATION, and his gimmick is being immortal and having magic. So, just a (presumably younger) Vandal Savage with magic tricks and a better actor. I am biased in that, before The Flash Season 4, Arrow Season 4 was the biggest pile of shit superhero show that has aired in my memory, and he was the main villain (although Felicity is who mostly ruined the season, not Dahrk). That said, he was the worst villain in LoT Season 2 by a huge margin.

Anyway, having seen the first episode, Mick and Stein sure were as good as always. Rip Hunter and his Time Bureau were so fucking bad I'm surprised I didn't break my TV. I was literally calling what would happen with them as I was watching, and I got it all right. Legends steal time ship, check. TB tries to fix Caesar, but their incompetence gets them caught, check. Rip lets the legends go for some vague reason while the idiot female agent complains, check. I felt like Nostradamus watching the TB scenes in this episode. So, it was both predictable and rage inducing.

I'll watch parts of other episodes, because watching this made me want to see more Mick and what Stein we get before he dies. Probably skip any scenes with fake Adrianna because fuck LoT and its writers that actively hate the source material (definitely skipping Episode 3, since I don't need to see her introduction if I'm ignoring any plot stuff with her), and any episode that seems like its time travel story sucks. But I definitely want more from the two good characters on the show, so I'll watch some more.

When a "superhero" is so incompetent that a powerless 19th century con man can capture them, you have to question what drugs the fucking writers are on. Seriously. Plus, you know, slavery was illegal by the time PT Barnum founded his circus in 1871, so how long he could expect to hold people literally against their will for his show is probably only until they reached a city where a fucking cop decided to visit the circus. Also, Ray has a bit of an intelligence advantage, he'd probably escape within days, so there isn't really any threat, it just makes the heroes look like complete morons.

Maybe if the show hired real writers, and didn't just pay a group of kindergartners in candy to write scripts, the show might actually make sense and be good. It has a few characters that definitely work despite the incompetent, brain dead writing. But at this point it is almost as painful as The Flash, which is fucking pathetic. I think I'm just going to watch the Vietnam episode, since it seems to have a Mick sub plot, and tap out of the show. Its totally moronic, and some of the worst writing I've seen on a superhero TV show that isn't The Flash Season 4 or Arrow Season 4. I legitimately think everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such terrible work, including the writers that actually took money to write this absolute shit.

Vox.com continues to be a fan of Legends of Tomorrow:

Legends of Tomorrow is still TV’s weirdest, greatest superhero show
The goofiest corner of The CW’s Arrowverse became its best self in season three.

I loved the writer's recurrent explanation for the crazy antics on LOT was "they were drunk."

This show makes me smile, and in today's world "that" is an accomplishment.

Does anybody else find it odd that Ray Palmer has been turned into so much of a non-entity? On Earth, he somehow settled for being a low level employee of a tech company (even though he wasn't even working under a false identity), and, in the finale, they didn't even bother to give the guy a totem.

Ray is a genius inventor and former tech billionaire. He completed four PhDs, and he's obviously a master engineer and chemist. Yet, nobody even bothered to train him as a back-up engineer for the Waverider.

Yeah it is a shame they didn't do that

He spent all the time that Jax - and later, Zari - did learning the ship either working on his suit or working on a way to separate Firestorm. He could learn it, he was just busy.
