Stan Lee, now 95... being picked apart by vultures

The Last Days of Stan Lee
He's 95... and probably doesn't have much time left. And it's sad to hear what's going on, that people in his circle are vying to take advantage of him. Some pretty shocking allegations. Really sad to see this happen. :(

This is what happens when you check out of life with anything leftover.

That is a crushing read. $1.4 million could not simply evaporate into thin air like that. Someone must have it in their pockets. I guess after a lifetime as busy and prolific as his, he encountered the very worst of people. :( (Whitney Houston bathtub photo guy, i.e.)

Optimism alert: I am hopeful before things get too bad that Robert Downey Jr. or Kevin Smith or someone of that ilk will let Stan and his daughter crash on their sofa or something. Man.

EDIT: Just realized this story broke nearly a month ago. The most recent news is that a former business associate stole Stan Lee's blood to infuse into expensive Marvel pens?
Those are some fucked up nerds (who would provide the demand for such a thing).

Unfortunately, if Mr. Lee gave 'Power of Attorney'; or has corrupt people under his employ; that's what can happen. If he's still mentally cognizant enough to handle his own affairs, he (or his daughter) needs to do so. :(

Yep... that's precisely it. I'm surprised his daughter wasn't more intimately involved and ensured trustworthy professionals were selected. Hopefully they're on the right track for some workable damage control.

Todd McFarlane on Facebook| MY RECENT VISIT...

"Stan Lee. I wonder how he’s doing?”

It’s a question, I think, many of us in the comic industry have been asking ourselves recently. With a handful of news articles swirling on the internet about Stan, it has led to lots of questions. Through all of it, I really have focused on just one crucial question…

“I wonder how Stan is doing?”

With that in mind, I want to post about my recent visit to see my dear friend Stan at his house last week (March 29th). To be clear, what I am writing is strictly about the one hour visit I had with him. What Stan does with all the rest of his personal time was not something we talked about during my visit.

CBR| Stan Lee's Daughter Accused of Physical, Psychological Elder Abuse

CBR said:
95-year-old comic book legend, Stan Lee, and his troubled relationship with his only child, 67-year-old J.C. Lee has led to allegations against the latter. The younger Lee is accused of inflicting both physical and psychological abuse upon her father, as well as her mother, Joan Lee, prior to Joan’s death in July of last year.

An in-depth report by The Hollywood Reporter contains a notarized document from February 13, 2018, where Stan Lee signed a declaration at the office of his then-attorney, Tom Lallas, where Lee accused three men, Jerardo “Jerry” Olivarez (Lee’s primary caregiver at the time), Keya Morgan (Lee’s current primary caregiver) and Kirk Schenck (J.C. Lee’s attorney) of taking advantage of J.C. in an attempt to “gain control over my assets, property and money.”

Within days, however, Lallas was out as as Lee’s attorney and a number of other people in Lee’s life were also removed (a new attorney, a new accountant, a new assistant, a new housekeeper and a new gardener) as Morgan’s control over Lee’s life continued. Morgan released a video of Lee from April 7, where Lee denounces the previously-signed declaration. In the video, Lee states, “My relationship with my daughter has never been better, and my friend Keya Morgan and I also have a great relationship.”

So, the issue is his biological daughter is a spoiled brat (at age 67 no less) - who throws temper tantrums to get what she wants and is in league with people who just want to strip Stan Lee's estate of everything - and it looks like they're bullying him to comply and removing anyone with a wish to shield him or actually look out for HIS interests.

That's truly sad. But unfortunately, it appears they've got him toeing their line by calling the Declaration he himself had signed at one point a bunch of lies. :(

Keya Morgan (one of the men suspected of manipulating Lee) sent TMZ a new video of Lee where he denied elder abuse and threatened to sue anyone spreading lies about it.

Transcript of the video, courtesy of io9:

“Hi this is Stan Lee and I’m calling on behalf of myself and my friend Keya Morgan. Now, you people have been publishing the most hateful, harmful material about me and about my friend Keya and some others. Material which is totally incorrect, totally based on slander, totally the type of thing that I’m going to sue your ass off when I get a chance.

You have been accusing me and my friends of doing things that are so unrealistic and unbelievable that I don’t know what to say. It’s as though you suddenly have a personal vendetta against me and against the people I work with. Well I want you to know I’m going to spend every penny I have to put a stop to this and to make you sorry that you’ve suddenly gone on a one man campaign against somebody with no proof, no evidence, no anything but you’ve decided that people were mistreating me and therefore you are going to publish those articles.

I’m going to get the best and most expensive lawyers I can and I want you to know if you don’t stop these articles and publish retractions, I am going to sue your ass off.”

Stan Lee ripped off the work of Jack Kirby both financially and creatively, so (elder abuse aside, which is just despicable) I'm not feeling a ton of empathy for the guy losing some money on his deathbed.

Prove it. Jack had sour grapes about not getting his due from other editors, but Stan gave him credit when it wasn't done, and held him up as an exemplar in the industry. If he didn't get paid, it wasn't because of anything Stan did, as he wasn't the money man.

Don't debate me. This is all I'll say about it.

Fair enough. I won't debate you. I'll just say that Stan Lee was at various points Editor-in-Chief, Publisher, and Chairman of Marvel. He had a lot more to do with the money than you're implying.
